Article is about people becoming depressed after seeing Avatar because...no, not because how bad it is, let's get that obvious joke out of the way...but because our world isn't as pretty as Pandora! :) People actually thinking of committing suicide because they'll never be able to be anywhere as pretty as Pandora! People needing help from online communities to get them over their extreme depression and suicidal thoughts because they can't live like the Na'vi! :rommie: They even have a psychiatrist's quote about the upper echelons of virtual reality in this cinematic world and how it fools people and draws them in! :guffaw:

Man, some people are so lame.

HAH! Great minds think alike - I just started a thread on this same topic! Since you got here first I'll ask for my thread to be merged with yours.

Slow news day I guess. There are always going to be people who fall into a depression after seeing a movie that has any emotional intensity like that for them. I am sure if you look at other moveis in the past you can find that it affected people too.

Fuck it.

I'm going back to bed.

This is clearly not a world that needs people like me alert and irritated with their dumbass shenanigans.

(Sighs and continues muttering as he walks off)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've been a Sci-Fi fan all my life. I've seen hundreds of movies and TV episodes about alien planets and I never had such a crisis. I guess some people are more sensitive than others. :)

How can anybody prefer a fictional world to our own:

WE COME FROM A PLACE WHERE WE KILLED ALL OUR GREEN!

We're also abusive and mean, and not nearly as good basketball players as the Na'vi.

What is there to be happy about?

I imagine that these people that are getting suicidal and depressed over Avatar aren't really getting that way over the movie...surely they must have a host of other real problems that are the root cause of their depression. I would think that they are projecting their feelings onto the film, perhaps as a way of not facing the fact that they need to deal with whatever problems in real life are the true reason they are depressed...

I'm only sad about its story and writing.. :p

I'll admit I've pondered the idea of going to Pandora. Invariably, though, I imagined myself being in some sort of hover tour bus - the very idea of stepping out into the natural environment just strikes me as repellent. It's very pretty to look at, but it's still an untamed rainforest, and must be very discomfiting to live in even ignoring all the monsters. Just imagine the hygiene, for one thing.. yecch.

It's really sad to think I can never have sex with Neytiri. :(

Oh, my, and that as well.

And I reckon some parts of Italy are just as beautiful as any wacky alien planet. :p
Yeah, but how many people are just a drive away from the Italian countryside?

Hell if I wanted greenery I'd probably head south to Kerry or something, but I'm an urbanite and as such am more jealous of New Yorkers for living in such a staggeringly big city.

Where is the place where these waterfalls are located? They're beautiful!

Looks like Iguazu Falls in Argentina.

IMO the most impressive waterfall in the world is Angel falls in Venezuela. (Yes, this is what the landscape in "UP" is patterned after) pic #2, pic #3

As far as the topic at hand... Yes, there is incredible beauty in our world that most people are not aware of. But it isn't exactly always cheap to go experience those places. :) Not as cheap as a movie ticket to Pandora, at least. ;)

How silly. A sci-fi world would never bother me like that. On the other hand, people in movies who are impossibly rich and powerful, those kind of bug me, because I will never be that rich. :p

(Give me money)

That's like someone getting sad and depressed after watching The Dark Knight because they aren't Batman.

Oh wait, that's me :(
