There are a few moments like that between them, but I think Kirk's many adventures with women kinda indicate he's not gay.
There's a little notation in The Motion Picture novelization, by Roddenberry, that states kirk always found his greatest satisfaction in women (or words to that effect.) So maybe he's a bit bi, who knows.

^That's much more interesting than Kirk possibly being gay. Some early Trek lit suggested Enterprise had a rudimentary sentience and requited his love. Having read I, Robot and other Asimov and Clarke I found that quite plausible. The idea of electronics gaining sentience of course we all saw come to fruition as Data and Voyagers' EMH.
Despite all the slash fiction, my impression is no. From what is observed, Kirk is straight. I don't believe it's a persona the he is assuming for the benefit of the crew, nor is his skirt chasing an attempt to compensate for secret gay desires. Kirk is sexually attracted solely to women, all his past lovers were female, all his shown conquests the same. He fathered a child with Carol Marcus, if he was using Carol as a mask, he would of general let it be known that he possessed a son, spoke of him often, pictures on the wall sort of thing.

Y'know in ST II TWOK when Carol Marcus said Kirk was NEVER a boy scout, I wonder. What does she mean by that? What does she think a boy scout is? Could it have a different meaning in the 23rd century that I'm unaware of?
