Hugh Jackman confirmed that FOX is eying a 2011 start date for Wolverine 2 which likely means a summer 2012 release date. No word has been given on whether the first film's director, Gavin Hood, will return but sources have indicated that he has expressed an interest in returning. The script is currently being penned by The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie.

The storyline is confirmed to take place in Japan.

Unless its gets a much better WoM to go on, I think this movie will make even less than the 1st one. I wonder whats kicking off May 2012 ?

Probably Wolverine 2. The X-Men movies have always opened up in May. Star Trek 2 has already secured the June 2012 spot.

Gavin Hood wants to return? Does he actually think they'll leave him alone this time?

Well, with McQuarrie writing it hopefully it will have a stronger story. His Japan stories always did have like a under cover spy type of feel to them. I'd like to see him play Patch, for a bit in this film.

I just hope the villian is someone like Viper and not Sliver Samauri.
Sliver Samauri is such a punk character. I don't think he's ever won a fight agianst anybody ever!!!! :scream:

Will James Cameron's success with Avatar encourage Fox to give greater creative control to their directors instead of micromanaging their superhero films into 90 minute toy commercials?

I doubt it, Cameron is in a different league to anyone they get for an X-men movie and has far far more power, plus he wrote Avatar, plus he owns the studio that made the film etc etc.

Bingo!

What about getting McQuarrie to direct it too? His directorial debut, Way of the Gun, is a pretty good movie. And hopefully he's an experienced enough hand to withstand interference from Fox.

I also hope that this movie is less prequel-ly than its predecessor. It won't have to show Wolvie's origins, birth, how he got the adamantium skeleton and tie in with the events shown in flashback in X2. They can just set it in Japan and be ambiguous as to when it's set. If people want to imagine it's taking place before the first X-Men movie, well and good. If they want to imagine that it's post-X3, let that work too. And while I'm all for mutant cameos, I could do without the de-aged Xavier, the Marsden-lookalike young Scott, etc etc. Let the movie stand on its own, not be a collection of cameos and 'look, see what we did there?' spots.

Unless they're cameos of characters in Wolverine books, like Madame Joy or Moses Magnum.

^^ Yeah ok but if I remember correctly Madam Joy owns the bar were Wolvie cage fights in Madipoor, I think. So it would be nice to have her as a cameo.

I thought I was the only one who liked those kind of Wolverine stories.

I wouldn't mind a low-key Wolverine story, I always thought that worked well with the character but I imagine they will go with some over-the-top mutant menace.

Yeah, that would at least make sense. It was the likes of the Xavier and Cyclops cameos in the first one that annoyed me.

Please, not just Aragorn, everyone, please, just...stop. This has gone so beyond not funny to the point of being annoying just grazing my visual field.

No way, too me those are his best stories.

I like him better when he's the covert, cool Clint Eastwood type of guy. Sure, let the film have hack & slash action but I wouldn't mind seeing a spy mission story this time. Too bad they used "The Hand" in Electra.

They better have a tight script and get some material out that shows this isn't the wanker cameo fest of the first. I'm on the fence about Origins and will really need some proof to go see this opening weekend or pay for it after getting a free screener pass(as I often get).
