And now, something "weird" - USS Archon, NCC-0189

Wow, thanks for the strong feedback. :)

I went back to something closer to what I had to begin with, with a few tweaks. I added some hull detail, and impulse engines.

Am I back on track again?

:)

looking nice.

the sheathing may have been overdone, but IMO i think there was something to work with there.

Hmm, an idea occurred to me. I remembered this...

and thought my ship here was similar. I always liked that little guy.

Ok, so over here, and on the Sci-fi meshes board, there have been all kinds of Daedalus class ships showing up recently, and I saw one image (I can't find it again) showing a Daedalus with Kelvinized parts. So, I thought I would build something similiar.

I warned you, this is weird. :)

I named it the Archon; Apparently it was supposed to have been a Daedalus class, originally. Maybe this is what it looked like. :)

This is still very preliminary; I haven't even smoothed out the shapes yet.

What do you guys think?

MadMan1701A, the only things I didn't like about your original design, quoted above, are (1: the four nacelles; I prefer two... and (2: the funky groove in the sides of the forward spherical hull; I say leave it smooth, but with hull-plating surface detail.

BTW, I don't know if you're aware of this, but this project reminds me of a couple of TOS-oriented Daedalus threads inspired in 2008 by NCC-1701 / "Winter". Here's a link to the original Apex-class starship thread, and here's a link to Starscape's derivative Apex thread.

I would absolutely love to see some of your design ideas in this thread applied to a prime-Universe thread about the Apex-class vessel or something similar. I could see this Daedalus-derived Archon concept fitting in very well in a pseudo-Kelvinized pre-TOS Apex-class ship.

Um, Star Control I think? Earth ship?

On the Archon, while not a fan of spherical hulls, I do admire the modeling.
Also, everytime I look at those 4 nacelles somewhere in the back of my mind I hear

"lock S-foils in attack position!";).

I really like it. It makes way more sense to have the engineering hull run straight through the main hull. The deflector has a perfect line of sight. A disconnection is still possible and you don't need an auxiliary nav-deflector.

Plus IMHO four engines looks far more balanced

Thanks for the comments, guys. :)

I'm actually considering changing the registry to 1189, instead of 0189. It's still going to be the Archon, though.

I hadn't seen those threads about the Apex class, or I didn't remember them. Neat stuff. :)

The Castellan - The main part of the dish is a coppery/gold color... It just doesn't stand out as much with the blue glowing parts in there.

Maybe updates today, if work isn't too busy. :)

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I hope everyone had a good Christmas/Holiday, and hopefully everyone got to take a break. :)

I think I have finished this one as far as it will go. It's really a background ship, so I'm not going to go too crazy with it.

Here goes...

What do you guys think? I think I nailed the "Something Weird" part. :)

I love it except for I'm not sure about the dark gray windowed areas. How would it look if that part of the hull was regular color, or maybe just a little bit darker than the rest? Or is that not weird enough? :)

Well, the problem with a big sphere like that, is that it looks really boring it its all the same color. I think it might be too dark, but It's the same color texture that I used for all my other dark areas, so that's why I kept it. It's just to break up the space. :)

Thanks for the other comments, guys. I'll try to have some wallpaper or something up soon.

Next project... the Klingon ship from the new movie!
