    Book him, Dan-O!

The last challenge of 2009 speaks volumes - literally! The Lensman had it covered when he challenged us to create book covers for times that told the tales of one-shot wonders, characters who came and went in 42 minutes. If print is dead, these folks don't know it yet - we got more entries than we've probably had all year! It appears everyone wants to know the same thing: what happened next?

With so many to choose from, it seems unfair to ask you to vote for only one, so figure out which two will be on your bedside table for late night reading, and cast your votes. Maybe you can tell a book by its cover!

Wow, it must've been quite the New Year's Party - no one has commented yet on the great entries we had this time? Well, at least people are voting :bolian:.

I voted for Mr. Cellophane and Starscape - the realism of Mr. C.'s entry is impressive - makes me want to buy a blank book and print his entry so I can sit it on my bookshelf and watch friends puzzle over why they've never seen it before ;). Starscape's presentation, too, was excellent, and I admit I'm a sucker for a good (or even a bad) pun.

Lots of good entries; I love the take on 'Indiana' Jones by largo, and of course I'm curious about what's going on behind the covers (!) with Helen Noël - it appears she may be a bit upset. Will's Babe's cover reminds me (not visually, of course, but contextually) of John Byrne's recent Star Trek: Crew comic mini-series that followed Number One on her path to the second seat of Enterprise, and teased us more than once with a name that was never revealed.

Great job, everyone! And a great way to finish off the year! :techman:

Not in a long time has this contest had so many strong, excellent entries. Congrats to all, truly wonderful work was done. For me, the pick for the best was the hardest it has ever been. However in the end, Mr. Cellophane to me was the best but only by a nose. To me it looks like a half dozen or so Star Trek books I have read many times that are currently sitting on my book shelf.

I totally agree. It was a hard choice. These artist, all of them, did a great job. At first I didn't read what this thread and I thought they were real books and I thought "how come I haven't seen any of these"...thinking they might be future releases..great job for all..

Klaus and The Lensman for me.

I enjoyed entering this competition a great deal. I think it's only the third or fourth art contest I've entered. Thanks to the folks who voted for me. :)

Stop the presses - we have a winnah!

For his efforts, in a drama that was a real page-turner, Mr. Cellophane gets 60 quatloos - and closes the book on 2009. Now we'll see if he has the spine to deliver on the first challenge of 2010. Congratulations, Mr. Cellophane, and very well done, indeed.

Congratulations and thanks to all the contestants - every single one got a vote from someone, quite an accomplishment in a field this large and varied. Let's hope that this is a harbinger of things to come in the new year. And, of course, thanks to all who voted - it's great to see new faces here, and to show them the imagination and creativity of the members who frequent and participate in this forum.

Happy New Year to all, and as we ring out the auld, we leave it to Mr. Cellophane to usher in the new as he lays down the January challenge here in the now-Fan Art Forum. It looks to be a great year!

Congrats to Mr. Cellophane, you did an outstanding job! Again, I feel like I've seen that book in every used bookstore I've been to.

Everyone did a fantastic job and it was awesome that so many people entered with so many wonderful pieces!

Can't wait to see what Mr. C has for us!

    Happy New Year everyone!

And thanks to The Lensman for setting us up with a challenge that really connected with so many people :bolian: (sorry for being remiss on that acknowledgment in my last post ;)).

Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate all the help I got on this project in my thread.

So... for next month, I have an idea but I'm not sure if it's been done already.

Basically take any object you own and turn it into something that would fit in the Star Trek universe. You could use any medium for the challenge.

So, if it hasn't been done before, what do you all think the presentation should be? I was thinking that making an advertisement for your object would be fun, but I don't know how everyone feels about that.

    Thanks again folks!

I don't believe that one's been done before - sounds interesting! I don't think the presentation needs to be in ad form. People could present it as a tech spec or just a nice picture, but I think that should be up to the individual. The challenge itself, to me, should just be modding your item to make it fit Trek.

BTW, several months back, I wanted to keep a running tally of past challenges with each new one, but it looks like October was the last time it was included.

Just add the caveat that entrants must include a picture of the real item for reference so that voters can more easily judge the design evolution from what it is now to what it looks like Trek-ified.

I was thinking of objects, not starships or shuttlecraft when I thought of the challenge. I thought that might be more interesting.

    Good work, though!
