Hmph. The Hit Girl trailer really looks like it's trying way too hard to be cool. I'm reminded of all those class trailers for Team Fortress 2 (worth youtubing, those), only they were funny and good.
The Big Daddy trailer though, that was more amusing.

That, I do not know, as the movie was independently financed, so I do not know how much they spent.
However, even with the trailers released and some of the publicity attached to the movie, you will automatically know that everything over-the-top and/or pathetic looking is intentional for a humorous effect.
The main character in the green, Kick-Ass, is the last person who should be a superhero. Yet, he is trying it anyway, and horribly failing along the way.
As I've mentioned before, I've seen about 20 minutes of the movie. It is jaw droppingly hilarious as it is a really good spoof of the comic book genre w/o being a direct parody of anything specific (as far as I have noticed anyway). The general release tease trailer hasn't conveyed that entirely just yet. Hopefully, the full general release trailer will. I almost hesistate using the term "spoof" as the movie isn't necessarly one. Honestly, it really is unlike anything that has been made before.
That being said, as awesome as this movie will be, I predict that it will do ony modestly in theatres (perhaps it will do better considering it is coming out during a dead time for movies), but will explode once it hits DVD.
Let me guess. You're someone who thought both Austin Powers and Napoleon Dynamite would fail because the characters were just "too stupid." Am I right?
Just like those movies, I think this one has great potential to explode based on word of mouth after it comes out.
Is that certain? Of course not. It could end up being another Nacho Libre. Anything's possible.
I'm just saying it's got a better-than-even chance to do well which is an option you seem to have entirely dismissed already.
As someone who hasn't read the books, I can almost assure you that the general public will take the movie the same way I did when I saw the trailer: With horror and disgust.
I understand now that it's supposed to be over the top and satirical, but that's not what the trailer seemed to make it out to be. The trailer felt like a glorification of 8-year-old gun violence. It was very disconcerting.
I have not read the comic... Let me make that clear first.
But it strikes me that the film is trying to have it both ways. For the main character, it is a realistic take on (trying to) become a super-hero. Yet with HitGirl, that goes completely out the window, where she has superhuman abilities. (catching two clips into the gun mid-air, at the same time... right) The film *seems* to want to have it both ways.
Also for the ones who think it is 'oooh edgy' to have an 11yr old swears and kills left and right. Where do you draw the line? Pushing boundaries just for the sake of pushing them should not be the endgame. What's next? A 5-yr old who tortures and kills, while swearing?
As a father of a girl who is almost HitGirl's age, I can only say that I find it in very poor taste.
I may still see the film, but by focusing on 'HitGirl' (clearly developing as a fan favorite), I am less and less inclined to see it.
Hit Girl does not have superpowers....her father Big Daddy
has trained her since he was released from jail
I haven't read the comics yet either. Been waiting for the HC in March. I was able to read the script several months ago and it blew me away.
As for the amped up violence surrounding Hit Girl...it's part of the social commentary Millar is making in the book it's self. Where is the limit for violence that we reveal and show our children? Movies, video games, comic books keep pushing and pushing that edge until it becomes blurry. This is what Kick-Ass is all about IMO and why it's so violent. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to film all the violence because it's an important part of the message in the story. How far do we go in society to expose our young to violence? I say this as one who's not a father but can understand how parents and others will be bothered by this film.

^ That was part of the reason that the studios didn't want to touch the movie, causing Vaughn to finance it independently. It was only after the movie was completed the studios became interested in it after seeing its completed potential.
I've decided I want Chloe Moretz to play Ender Wiggins in an Ender's Game movie.
Yes, I realize that in the novel Ender is a boy. But I've thought for a long time that Ender's Game would be more palatable to movie audiences if Ender were a girl. She would be more sympathetic, and the incest subtext would be eliminated.
Dan is seeing Iron Man 2...just Kick-Ass seems more exciting right now. Wait until a better Iron Man 2 trailer comes out and Dan will be salivating over Scarlett Johansonn.
