Mr. Reed and Section-31-An Observation

..The implant 31 put in our brains must have been set to the same frequency..LOL!:bolian:Intriguing. Always nice to compare creative notes with fans...

^I agree. Awesome. :)

But, hey--they say that Great Minds Think Alike....;)

Who knows--maybe the situation is...the changeling virus, or something similarly controversial....

I guess the Mirror Universe S 31 would make the PU's look like saints by comparison....if there indeed were one.The one we know of worked in the dark, but, as militarisitic, and brutally direst in it s approach as the MU Starfleet is, it's a little hard for me to see need for such a specific organization, beyond Fleet Intelligence, and Security...however, a potential 31 in the MU could end up like the Tal Shiar or the Obsidian Order-wielding considerable power on its own. It WOULD make a powerful tool for the Emperor...oh well, I guess this is better for the MU thread...just some thoughts...What if the MU Reed was working covertly for their 31....??Talk about wheels-within-wheels....

^^

...But the MU S-31 may be a covert organization against the Empire....i.e. the Rebellion against the Terran Empire...

Unlikely. The Mirror Section 31 is probably more akin to the Prime Universe's Tal Shiar and Obsidian Order. Likely worse. Which makes me worried about the Mirror Tal Shiar and Mirror Obsidian Order.

If there is one, a MU Section 31 may very well be something akin to the Gestapo, or the KGB.

Whichever one's creepier. ;)

If it was indeed evil, it may be like SMERSH/Smert Spionam....:shifty:

^Perhaps even SPECTRE.

"SPECTRE?"

SPECTRE--the SPecial Exectutive for Counterintellegence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion....

^I'd LOVE the idea of a Section 31 series--TV or film.

Could be Trek's version of 24....

Now, about the Gorkon thing--what would be the motive for this? Surely Gorkon's peace initiative would be beneficial, as it deals with a threat to the Federation?

That would turn me off, since I HATE 24 with passion.
I'd rather see a story with Section 31 getting what it deserves for a change.

Also, I think in the Mirror Universe, Section 31 would probably have more power than the Emperor himself. Akin to the Cult of Skaro, they are ranked above the Emperor Dalek.

I just watched Minefield tonight and the whole time I was thinking how fitting it would be if Reed was a complete believer in the good of Section 31. He's such an odd character, they could have really pulled it off. I could see him being attracted to Section 31 out of his frustrations with the lack of discipline in Starfleet and the failure to take security seriously (something he gripes about to Archer while impaled into Enterprise's hull).

^^

Maybe...

....but being an operative at that time, he wouldn't be able to tell Archer his opinions on why he believes S-31 is better disciplined...

I'm glad Starfleet was not as 'disciplined' as Section 31. Especially since the mission of the NX-01 was not a millitary based one, anyhow.

Now, about the Gorkon thing--what would be the motive for this? Surely Gorkon's peace initiative would be beneficial, as it deals with a threat to the Federation?

Well, the ones doing the assassinations, the humans anyhow, had the "The only good Klingon is a dead Klingon" mentality. Plus with the treaty, the ships along the Nuetral Zone would be withdrawn, along with the Starbases. Some people don't like change, and seeing the status quo change is the worst thing that some people fear. :borg:

^Wheras sometimes, change is bad.

For example, removing starbases and ships from the border is dumb--what if Romulans attack?

Fortunately, apparently the UFP got smart, and negotiated their way out of having to do that, as per TNG.

I can see, as indicated prior, Malcolm being willing to go undercover to learn what he can about Romulan activities in the early days of the war...even maybe in conjunction with 31, seeing as Trip went in with them(In the novels)to try and prevent disaster.Having them teamed would be pretty cool, and they've become good friends over time...as said also, haven't read 'Raptor' but personally i'd not mind seeing Trip and T'Pol behind Romulan lines together, but, I'm assuming that Jon would of course need her far too much on Enterprise-and he's already lost a chief engineer(and here I mean as in due to covert duty)Hey, one thing 31 missed, at least as far as the actual series was concerned, I assume, is the infiltration of the Vulcan High Command by Romulans...

^Who says they missed it?

But maybe, when they encountered the Tal Shiar, they met their first truly Worthy Opponents.

I'll bet ya there was a LOT of behind-the-scenes Clashes-Of-The-Titans.

Would make for some awesome storylines: Spy vs. Spy....

Wrong Nuetral zone, I think. I was always under the impression that there were two, one of the Romulans, one of the Klingons.
