God of War

So I picked up a PS3 the other day, my main reasons were for God of War 3, God of War Collection and Final Fantasy 13. I picked up a few other games, but so far haven't really taken GoW Collection out, except for LittleBigPlanet, which is awesome.

Anyone else playing it? Besides having these games again, the new graphics are outstanding. It also comes with the code to download GoW3's demo, which I tried the other night and didn't work, but people said it's up now.

Anyone else pick it up? Or just love these games in general?

What other series would you like to see updated for the current gen? I'd kill to get the Devil May Cry series have the same treatment those are stellar games (1&3 anyway)

I own both games on PS2 so I can't really justify buying them yet again just for the up-res'ed graphics.

I really want to see Ico/Shadow of the Colossus updated though. Just even a decent locked down framerate would be enough for me.

Ico would be brilliant. Talk about a hidden gem that no one really new about.

I imported God of War Collection, never did play them on the PS2 so it's a new experience for me. I finished the first one the other day and started the second one.

Oh, apparently there's going to be a Shadow of the Colossus re-release, but so far it's Japan only, and appears to be a reprinting of the PS2 version not an updated release for the PS3.

I've never played God of War. I don't have a PS3 but I do have a PS2. I was always wary of it because I know it's the game that popularized quick button press mini games and I ****ing hate those things. How much of that is in the game? And how well would these games stand up today? Would it better to just play 2 and not 1?

^As it stands I'm enjoying both games. The quick time events and "mini games" can get a little annoying but not enough to ruin the game. Not being able to control the camera annoys me a little though.

I've never played any of them, but I'll be picking up the GoW Collection when it's released over here, and I've provisionally added GoW 3 to my ShopTo pre-order list.

God of War Collection isn't being released here, instead they're doing a GoW Trilogy collection.

I imported mine for £26.99 from Movietyme.com but I think it's gone up since.

They're both great, don't skip out on the first one.

I played the first game back in the day, but never the second. I'd like to pick up the collection and play through both before the third game.

Oh, come on. God of War is widely considered one of the best games on the PS2 and is only four years old. Games take a hell of a lot longer than four years to become obsolete if they ever do. You can also buy it for $10 or less used. There's no reason not buy it.

I've been playing through the collection on PS3, having never tried the series before. They're very fun games that take me back to the Arcade beat 'em ups I played in the early 90s like TMNT and X-Men. Nice difficulty, I find I have to use my head to defeat some bad guys, I was expecting to just mash buttons and come out on top.

I'm still playing the first game so I can't speak for the 2nd game, but I have to say the ingame high res graphics look very nice. The game looks better on my HD tv then any Wii games I've played, although the cutscenes don't look like they got the same treatment and can look a little muggy but it's not a big deal.

As for the quick time events the series popularized, a lot of the bad guys you'll face will have optional button mashing mini-games, bosses tend to have required QTE challenges but they are usually no longer than 4 button presses long. I wouldn't let them deter you from picking up the game.

I honestly think it'd be kind of cool if Sony started doing a "HD Collection" series, rereleasing older games remastered for the PS3 and HD TVs, I know I'd love to have a chance to play a few gems I missed like Shadow of the Colossus.

I'm interested in picking this up, but I'm curious to know if it's like the Metal Gear Solid collection that came out last year, which contained the PS/2 versions of the games. My PS3 won't play PS2 games and, as much as I want to get this, I want to be able to play on my HD TV on the PS3. Is the GoW collection PS2 only?

^
Nope, it's the original two PS2 God of War games remastered and gussied up specifically for your PS3. It looks great on an HDTV. :)

I have the first 2 games on the PS2 and the PSP game. I really really tried to like these games. Sadly, it just didn't work.
