The old comic books are online

My favorite Star Trek comic book story is the one where Kirk saves the galaxy from a Klingon invasion by offering the Klingons some delicious Hostess fruit pies.

There are 40 Star Trek books online. I don't know if there were more issued back when.

According to Memory Alpha, there were sixty one issues published between July of '67 and February of '79.

Thanks, though I ment the reprint books. I only have a couple of the Gold Key originals, but I bought the first 4 or so of the reprint books and was wondering if I'd missed any.

The last I heard from Checker, the studio wanted to hold off on additional products until after the movie. But that's been months ago. I certainly hold out hope we'll see the last couple of books.

does anyone have any recommendations as to which ones are the best to download?

The later ones are the closest to fitting in with the series.

The early ones read like Trek as interpreted by the Soviet Union, though I still say the one with the prison asteroid reads like an actual episode, if you squint.

Hilarious guys!

I think it's cool but then I live in the United States.

I just downloaded Star Trek 01 - The Planet of No Return. Belar, the format is PDF.

As for the comic itself, the drawing is pretty poor and it's funny how in one panel they talk about the Enterprise having lasers, not phasers, but still, it's fun.

And yes, that is McCoy, Kirk and Rand. :alienblush:

Beanie on her head or no, I'm up for reading any comic featuring my beloved Rand. Shame I'm in the UK. I've got many of the original run of TMP era comics actually. Some of them were very good, others appallingly cheesy.

I think a comic series detailing the second 5-year mission properly with modern writers would be great fun.

Coool - looks like good old Arex gets some 'air time' too. I'll keep an eye out for it. Year 4 seems unlikely to feature Rand though - shame!

say, are these the same scans as that dvd-rom that came out last year (which I have)?

If not, is the quality any better or worse?

Yeah I got it about a month ago but have been kind of busy and have put it off.
Even the artwork generates a 1960’s feel that brings both the live action show and the subsequent cartoon to mind. This is how it should be done and if all the Star Trek: Second Stage titles can live up to this, we are in for quite a ride.
Part 1 ‘Enterprise Experiment’ Review

Here's one from the old Peter Pan Records days:

To paraphrase Guy from Galaxy Quest; Did any these artists actually watch the show?

IIRC, and I could be wrong, but wasn't the artist on some of these books Neal Adams (one of DC's great artist -- Superman, Batman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow). I loved these when I was four because it looked so much like the show except for the secondary characters. It may have been a rights issue and the company may have had the rights only to Shatner, Nimoy and Kelly's likeness and had to fudge the rest. In one comic, they had a green M'Ress and a blond-human Arex.

That ain't Neal Adams. Not sure who drew it, but it sure as hell ain't Neal Adams.

Interesting, Uhura is probably a European with an African name; or a bi-racial Euro-African with very prominant Caucasian features...or a woman who hailed from Africa and had an African name passed down from generation to generation...i.e. a different version of Charlize Theron.

....And 'Sulu' is now an Afro-Asian....

Well, even though it's different from the characters we're familiar with...but it definitely is very 'Trek-ian'...showing a very diverse future....(Even if it was somewhat un-intentional)....
