This afternoon we had an impromptu (spelling?) watching of THE WRATH OF KHAN. Mike and I watched it live, at my house, and Bill/Jed watched on their TVs, and we were all 'together' on XBOXlive during the viewing...
As expected, KHAN did much better than TMP, which could only muster a D- from three who reviewed it.
Khan scored very high in the acting/Directing/music/story areas, with the FX falling just shy of TMPs. The main reason for this was the use of the same FX shots from TMP. Yes, we all know why, but if we can get on BERMAN's ass for using the same klingon ship explosion, then we can get on Harve Bennett for practically lifting entire scenes of FX from TMP...
Of a possible 200 points it garnered 174 of them, giving KHAN a A-...quick notes..
Jed, my 23 year old nephew who bombed TMP, was generally impressed with KHan, having not seen it in years. He thought Shatner and company, Montebaulm in particular, really brought energy to the movie that was sorely lacking in TMP.
Bill, Mike and I all pretty much agreed. I thought Shatner should have been at least nominated for Best actor...but alas..he was not.
The pacing of Khan, in our collective opinion, is far better than TMP. There is an undeniable charm to this movie, with its 'at sea' feel with the new uniforms and nautical music. And the actors were still moderately in shape, and crisp with their dialog.
Next up; A CLOCKWORK ORANGE on THURSDAY.
