I feel your pain. Soda is addicting and I've been strung out for decades. I'm such an addict I am drinking diet soda now. And I don't even like diet soda!

My girlfriend and I are pretty much doing Atkins. She has lost 45lbs. in six months, I have lost 20 in three months. It really does take away those carb cravings too, which are a terrible bitch.

Had my health screening today so that work will pay 90% of my insurance instead of 80. Contarry to the Wii fit my health age and chronological age match! My blood pressure wasw 124/82, blood suguar 96 and cholesterol 172 andmy triglicerides were 65. All was good I was told. Yay Me

^ Good work!

I am really interested in the conversation about soda here. I drink caffeine-free diet Coke - the equivalent of about 2 cans per day, more or less. Maybe a bit more every so often, but certainly never more than 3 cans.

My sister was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, and one of the things she is cutting out of her diet is anything with artificial sweetener in it. I'm inclined to do the same and cut out the diet Coke. Not only will I not be putting chemicals in my body any longer, I'll also be saving about $4.00 per week on liter bottles of the stuff.

I don't really care for the tap water in my area, so I'm going to have to play around with it - maybe add some lemon or something. Or do unsweetened iced tea - get one of those sun tea jugs.

But this thing with my sister has scared the crap out of me. I've been watching what I eat alot more, and I've been working out 6 days a week for the past 5 - 6 weeks, whereas before, I was working out only about 2 -3 days a week, 'when I could fit it in'. Not any more. I am fitting other stuff around THAT, these days. I also found this site here:

I'm doing this virtual walk/jog across America....just for additional motivation.

No time like the present.

I'm odd in the fact that I enjoy water more than any other beverage, but I didn't like the tap water when I first moved into this house. I was used to the well water from where I grew up. We got a giant Brita type thing that we keep filled up in the fridge though, and it's improved the taste immensely. You might want to at least try something similar to see if it improves the water for you.

Can you tell me more? Or provide a link to something like what you are talking about?

Is it like a pitcher or something, that filters the water?

I am very interested in this. I thought water filters had to be installed at the tap and were quite costly to purchase and maintain......

Sure! I'm not certain about actual effectiveness or what it filters out, so you'll have to research that on your own. :p

There's a pitcher type, which I used when I was living alone in an apartment:

Brita Pitcher

There's the faucet type that I've never used but seems like it could be handy:

Brita On-Tap Chrome Faucet Filter

And then there's the tank type thing that we use at home and keep inside our fridge because I drink insane amounts of water. It's easy for us to fill up because of the way our kitchen sink and faucet are, but I imagine it might be cumbersome for some people. I should note that this is actually PUR, not Brita. You should check out different models and brands to see what has gotten good reviews.

PUR 2-Stage Dispenser

Hey...thanks very much. :)

I don't know if the faucet one will fit on my kitchen sink as I have one of those extended faucets that goes up and then loops back down. But the pitcher looks like it might be an option.

I'm gonna check these out at my Target.

Thanks again!

^ If you live alone, it's easy enough to buy a 5 litre bottle of mineral water. One goes for about 99p in my neck of the woods. That should last you a few days at least before you have to open another one. I'm not convinced the filters filter everything they need to. Where I live though, tap water is mixed with treated sewage, which I find a very unpleasant thought, so I'm a little paranoid about the whole issue. :wtf:

Welcome to the Trekbbs Weight Loss Central forum! I'm starting this to get in shape and others feel free to join me with your progress!

Day One (prior to starting diet): 235lbs, entire frozen pizza glass of soda, cup of cofee, terayaki sub, soda cheetos, soda.

So, a week later, how's it going?

I know, right? I always wondered how the football players got so huge in college considering how much they drank. Little did I know that the drinking was actually their secret!
