I always loved it too. I think some fans objected to the fact that it dared to mock Doctor Who, and failed to take itself as seriously as they do.

Love and Monsters? If we're rating on a scale of 0 to 5, I'd give it a 4.8, I think. Minus .1 point for the Absorbaloff being kind of lame and minus another .1 point for keeping the main character's girlfriend alive as a face in a bit of cement. Not because of the sex life comment, but because in general it seems a lot more horrible than being dead.

USS Bones, I have to ask, how do you feel about this video (in regards to the sonic screwdriver)?

Wow. I hadn't realised it was so disproportionate.

I just wanted to point out the sheer hilarious brilliance of this line. You may continue, Bones :)

Don't know what Bones thinks of it, but I think it's witty and informative. And very nicely put together! Thanks for telling us about it, Emh. :)

Wow. Firstly, I'm very impressed by the person who put it together, but the sooner they destroy the thing again, the better. It's got absurd. The previous one started the Great Fire of London didn't it? Maybe the next destruction can sink the proper Titanic or something...somehow. Or get left at Bikini Atoll and...well, I'm no writer.
    Thanks :)

As to the coming reviews, they'll probably be a lot more sparse over the next month, as I go home from uni later today and have exams to revise for and a cat to make a fuss of. It'd be nice if I could finish series 1 and then make a start on the Tennant era just after The End of Time airs. Having the whole Tennant bit over before I watch it all again.

I didn't mind that aspect of it, I thought the notion of a bunch of people who come togeather as Doctor Who fans but then discover they find other things in common etc was really sweet. I adored the Jackie bits, her finest hour that. Elton, Ursula and co were brilliant and the romance between Elton and Ursula is probably the sweetest romance RTD's written for Who.

    But...

Peter Kay, the Absorbalof, the stupid Benny Hill chase at the start, Ursula's fate and the stupid cheap sex joke at the end...they knock it down considerably. One occasion where RTD really should have reigned himself in. L&M annoys me perhaps more than any other episode of the new series, because it should have been brilliant, should have been better than even Blink.

The chase scene was more Scooby Doo than Benny Hill. The love life joke didn't bother me, and eh I can live with Peter Kay in the episode. So none of that ruins it for me. It isn't the brilliant episode it could have been but I don't think it's as bad as people make out.

I didn't mind the comedy chase scene - the whole story is going on in Elton's mind, with his typical exaggeration. That's part of the charm. I thought it was hilarious, and very brave for Doctor Who.

Fear Her was just rubbish though.

Seems like there's a good excuse for Fear Her though, it was a late replacement for an episode that didn't work out, and was added on to RTDs workload.

Yes, I can understand that. It's still rubbish, but I'll let them off.

Yeah, I'm not saying that makes it alright, just that there's a reason for it.

Fear Her is the worst episode of the new series (although even it has a few nice moments- the TARDIS having to turn around, the doctor taking charge with the squabbling people etc)

No, that honor goes to "Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks." I can tolerate "Fear Her" and "Love & Monsters" (which I, too, thought had the potential to be a brilliant episode but failed), but that two-part story made me want to pull out my hair. Very few Doctor Who stories do that to me (The Gunfighters and The Underwater Menace also fit in that category).

Ah but it did have shifty Daleks in the sewers looking over theit shoulders which was terrible and brilliant at the same time!

That was simply the only good thing about that entire story.

There are plenty of things wrong with the s3 Dalek episodes, but I refuse to believe Dalek Sec is one of them. Idiotic to have him killed.

There were a few good lines.

Martha: "You can't do this, it's inhuman!"
    Dalek: "WE. ARE. NOT. HUMAN!"
