John Malkovich rumored to play SPIDER-MAN 4 villain

Can we replace Sam Raimi as director and give you the job?
You clearly have a better grasp of the character than Sony does.

Aww shucks (blushes). But I don't think any fault lies with Raimi, who clearly has a love for Spider-man and classic Spidey foes. You'd think after forcing Venom on him with the last movie, they'd be more willing to listen to his point of view this time, but nope, ignore the guy who got it right first two times out and make him follow the pattern of the less successful third effort ... If that's the case, I can't see them listening to me either! :p

You're giving him the job of replacing Raimi, exodus? How could you. I thought we were friends. This is just rubbish. I should be the one replacing Raimi. I thought that would be obvious.
*Doing my best Val Kiilmer-Doc Holiday*
"Why Wyatt, does this mean we can no longer be friends?"

Come on, I had to give credit were credit is due.
Mofo had some good ideas. ;)

Not to start a personal vendetta or war or anything, but Captaindemotion stole that idea from me. ;)

Vultress? Are you kidding me!?

Sam Raimi makes George Lucas look like Tolkien in comparison. What a fucking hack if this is true. Bad enough he ruined Venom. If he ruins Black Cat, this serious will be in dire need of a Nolan-style reboot and stat.

How did he "Ruin" Venom? Venom's nothing more than an unstable, small-minded stalker which is what SM3 showed quite clearly. And if you mean that he didn't screw with Peter's life by showing up everywhere, Harry covered that well too.

Having Felicia be related to the villain makes for better drama than just being some random thief, now Peter has to deal with Felicia coming between him and MJ, and the fact that she's Vulture's daughter as well.

I don't think Venom was ruined in Spider-Man just mishandled a bit which made him disappointing...I thought Topher played a much more convincing Eddie Brock than he did Venom.

Why do we always need additional drama? I think one of the great things about Felica/Black Cat is that she's attracted to Spider-Man and not Peter Parker, that should be dramatic enough for Peter to deal with particularly when he has already had women problems in Spider-Man 3. Felica Hardy should be Black Cat and the daughter of a thief like she is in the comics. If you want to have some kind of connection to Tooms then mention that her father attempted to steal something from Tooms in the past...and Tooms was maybe responislbe for his death, thus giving Felicia a motivation.

And he sucked at it. James Franco is about as scary and intimidating as Barney Rubble. The fans paid money to see Venom. What they got was a complete waste of time.

Except that she's not The Vultures daughter. She's fucking Black Cat. Sorry if you think Raimi's genius vision is better then 40 years of an established pop-culture character.

I'm taking all of this with a big grain of salt, but if anyone has a decent chance of making the Vulture not lame, it's Malkovich.

Vultress on the other hand is awful, especially if they make her Felicia Hardy. That's the part that casts the most doubt on this rumor. Anne Hathaway as Black Cat on the other hand would be purrrfect, if you'll pardon the pun.

Then I guess the fans and Sony should have listened to Raimi when he repeatedly told them he didn't want to put Venom in his movies. It's a perfect example of becareful what you wish for.

Whoop his ass, Capt'n.

On the topic of Venom, I know a lot of friends who were looking forward to him. They were quite disappointed after his limited screentime in Spider-Man 3.

Raimi's version of Uncle Ben's death WAS better than the comic version, and notice that a lot of the "sacred" Spidey stuff ends up changed whenever there's an adaption or reboot like the Ultimate Universe? Because frankly a lot that stuff needs to be ditched or changed in the transition from comics to TV or movies. It's mere pragmatism.

As for the fans paying to see Venom, they DID get to see him. It's not Raimi's fault if Venom really IS that pathetic in live-action that the fans can't see it.

Well, in all fairness, Raimi and his writers kind of botched Venom. He didn't get nearly enough screentime as some of Spidey's other foes did, like Green Goblin or Doc Ock (or even Sandman). Topher Grace was all wrong to play Eddie Brock, who in the comics is not the scrawny equal of Peter Parker, but a huge bulking mess of a guy. Venom is suppose to be this huge, intimidating figure, and Grace played him more like a hokey parody of Spider-Man.

Truth be told it felt like the script was re-written just to add him in there because he did feel tacked on and just a means to get rid of the life form.

However, fans never should have expected much to being with seeing how they never played up Venom even in the films trailers. That alone was a hint he wasn't going to be much of a focus. Seriously, all the signs were there prior to the films release. Instead much like Boba Fett, fans created their own hype about Venom's involvement in the film. Much like how we're passing judgement on just the rumor of the Vultress, when nothing official has been said yet.

Originally, The Vulture, as played by Sir Ben Kingsley, was slated to be the second (or third) villain of the story. It wasn't until Raimi relented after much persistance by Avi Arad that he took out Vulture and put Venom there in his place, and with Venom came the symbiote storyline.

Fans wanted Venom. With all due respect to them, he was handled all wrong. He should have been cut entirely or just reworked somehow -- that or the film should have lost some characters, because it was jampacked the way it was. Anyway, I doubt fans really pay attention to trailers and that sort of thing. They hear a movie is coming out called Spider-Man 3, they hear Venom is going to be in it, they see a preview or two, and form expectations of their own. You can't really fault them for it.

What I'm trying to say is... it appears as if you're saying it was the fans' fault over the handling of Venom in Spider-Man 3, when in actuality it was the fault of the writers, producers and director, Sam Raimi. Of course that's subjective, but how can you fault fans' desires in seeing a character brought respectfully and faithfully to life?

Much like how we're passing judgement on just the rumor of the Vultress, when nothing official has been said yet.

I think we're merely commenting on the rumor. We are allowed to do that, aren't we? ;)
