Well, you'll need a computer first of all, preferably in working order...

    Sorry, bad sarcasm.

It's pretty straight forward actually. If I recall from when I owned it, there wasn't much need in the way of updates and patches, although it could be a bit finicky at times.

As for mods, I'd just do a search. There's probably plenty of sites out there, so all you really gotta do is find the one that seems more interesting to you.

I stopped watching the EF mod community a while back, but one completed SP mod which was fun was Colony 7. Google it.

I think the expansion pack had the latest patch in it so you should be fine.

As far as patches are concerned, the expansion pack contains the latest, so you're ok there.

As for mods, if you only download one, I recommend the iRez mod. Its purpose is to replace the standard textures with higher resolution/more canon textures. While the version I linked to is 7 years old, it's the latest. Even though its not complete, it makes a very noticeable difference.

Scooter's Canon Mod has better looking textures IMHO... if you're willing to part with the Hazard Team uniforms, to get them, that is.

Haven't played it for long, but the game looks great :) And there's lots of online CTF servers with people playing, which surprised me!

Was this the game where the final boss takes about a million years to beat? You can shoot and shoot and shoot, but it just stays alive?

Yes. The Vohrsoth leader has an insanely high amount of HP. I always just turn God Mode on when I get to him.

I got lucky enough to get launched all the way to the top of the arena by one of his blasts. I just stood on the ledge and fired down at him for however long it took to take him down.

My advice is to go get the TOS mods from stationK7. They've recreated areas from the original 1701 deck plans. It's very cool!

Completed it the other night. Was a bit surprised how short it was, much earlier Star Trek games seemed much longer. (It's taken me what, 8 years to complete A Final Unity? :P) Wasn't sure whether the Force-off was meant to be defeated by running around in circles until a cutscene appeared, or whether I had to kill him.

I hope they didn't bring back the Force-offs in EF2, I find them very, very boring.

Grenade launcher secondary fire. Target the mines to land more or less under him. He takes just over 100 shots that way.

For some reason, having an idea of how much longer it's going to take makes beating him much easier.

I assume you mean Vohrsoth. In which case, no, they don't return in EF2.
