End of Time Part 2 airs on Jan 2 (BBCA, Space)

BBC America has just confirmed they'll air part 2 of The End of Time on Jan. 2, just one day after the BBC.

So that's the US airdates wrapped up. For some reason Space Channel here in Canada has been dragging its feet - we haven't had confirmation of an airdate for either part of End of Time. Logically, I would expect the same days as the BBC America showings (given the precedent with Waters of Mars and Children of Earth) but I don't expect logic here in Canada! ;)

Re: BBC America airs EoT Part 2 on Jan 2.

I told you so. :p

Did you also tell all the blogs that were saying Dec. 31? :p

PS. Scratch that comment re: Space. They have just announced their plans -- and we won't see either part till Jan. 2. I'll start a separate thread for that.

Canadian airdates announced for End of Time

Good news and bad news for Canadian fans. Space channel has finally announced when they're airing both parts of End of Time, and bad news is we'll have to wait till Jan. 2 to see Part 1.

However, good news is they're doing a daylong marathon that's going to also include the complete Children of Earth (twice), Planet of the Dead, Waters of Mars, and The Next Doctor. As for End of Time, Parts 1 and 2 will air back to back in a 3 HOUR time slot. Take that CBC and your shoehorning! ;)

It's great to see such excitement over "The End of Time", but we really don't need separate threads for each release. They are on the same day after all, at least for BBCA and Space.

Can I ask maybe a stupid question? Why is there a ton more excitement for David Tennant leaving but there wasn't that much when Eccleston left. Does it have to do with mostly with the time frame the episodes take place (13 episodes in a row compared to the 5 or 6 we got in the last year) or is there something else. I guess being a new fan and introduced via Eccleston, that was a much bigger deal to me than Tennant leaving. I mean it's not like this is the first regeneration ever on this show.

I suppose it could have something to do with Tennant being the Doctor for four years now, while Eccleston was only around for a few months. I'm a new fan as well, but introduced via Tennant rather than Eccleston, so that's probably why Ten's upcoming regeneration is such a big deal to me.

Plus I'm guessing that the end of one Doctor and the beginning of another is always a big deal, but like I said, I didn't really get into Who until the new series, so I don't know if that was the case in the old series.

It's really been 4 years. Feels a lot sooner than that, even though it's been 4 seasons plus specials.

This is good news I guess...I was hoping for a Boxing Day Doctor Who Marathon that included End of Time at the end of the specials but I guess this is just as good. I didn't really know who David Tennant was at the end of series one to be honest and I knew who Chris was...and liked him. My best friend who was totally new to Doctor Who and who didn't know about regenerations was more interested and curious about the series one ending, Chris was his first Doctor ever so he wasn't sure what to expect.

David's had a good run with exceptional moments and events over the course of his run, it's going to be an emotional end I think because a lot of fans have that connection with David's Doctor.

First, David Tennant was with the show for 3 seasons, plus the specials, compared to Eccleston's one, so that's really all the reason you need. If you need more (and counting the specials as a season), Tennant has been identified with the show for more seasons than Hartnell, Troughton, Davison, Colin Baker, and McCoy. He also is 100 times more popular than Eccleston was in the role (as proven by polls showing him as the most popular Doctor ever, now even surpassing Tom Baker), and he also has a room full of major acting awards and nominations for the part. Do the math.

In the UK, the introduction of a new Doctor -- especially after a long tenure by the predecessor -- generates just as much interest, if not more, than the casting of a new James Bond.

Keep in mind that Eccleston's leaving had a weird combination of being arranged from the start (he was always going to leave after season 1) and yet many were surprised by what felt like a sudden departure. Some didn't see it coming. David Tennant has had over a year building up to this big final epic regeneration, and Eccleston just kind of dropped dead in the last two minutes of an episode.

I kept holding out hope that Eccleston would have a brief appearance in The End Of Time, sort of how he started the RTD era, was instrumental in its success, and now that the era is coming to an end, maybe he'd get a nod and a line. Ah well.

There have been rumors that Eccleston does return, spurred by the first The End of Time trailer having a close up shot that some think are him.

Oh how I would love if that happens. Based on what I'm hearing we're heading into a new Doctor Who era. The logo changed, the Tardis apparently is going to be changing some, and of course new doctor and new companion. It would be nice, if just for a brief moment if RTD ended his run the same way it began, by bringing back the 9th Doctor. I'm looking forward to Smith and Moffatt taking the reigns, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for it to begin so soon.

I would love to see Eccleston return, even very briefly, but I'm not holding my breath.

On a related note, I noticed last night that SPACE has started airing promos for "Waters of Mars". Looks great, I can't wait -- 2 weeks from tonight! :D
