Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod, But Loses to "Up"

This stuff gets lost in the billions of categories that the Grammy Awards has, but "Star Trek" was nominated in the Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media category. Giacchino received 4 nods in total, the other three for "Up" in the same category as above, plus Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement, for the heartbreaking montage at the beginning of the film and the end credits, respectively.

Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media

  • The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (Alexandre Desplat) [Concord Records]
  • Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (Nicholas Hooper) [New Line Records]
  • Milk (Danny Elfman) [Decca]
  • Star Trek (Michael Giacchino) [Varèse Sarabande]
  • Up (Michael Giacchino) [Walt Disney Records]
Personally, I hope Giacchino wins for "Up". The score was beautiful. "Star Trek" was good, but not as impressive. I really hope he wins for "Married Life" in Best Instrumental Composition. That sequence was really well done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeLgjGEBWcY (watch/listen to it if you haven't before).

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

That's great news!! Thanks for sharing! I haven't seen UP yet, and really don't have a desire to, although everyone i know who has seen it says it was GREAT.

I am particularly thrilled though the Giacchino was nominated for the Star Trek soundtrack. I think it just gives the movie another big thumbs up! YAY! NICE!! GOOD!!

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

That is brilliant let's hope the Star Trek soundtrack wins. also I have seen Up it is a lovely movie, sweet.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

Up sucks ass. Worst film of the year. Another Pixar shit fest

Give Up a try. It's a very good movie (which is why it's a possible contender for Best Picture), and definitely the most adult Pixar film to date.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

Giacchino deserves to win for Up, not for Star Trek. If he wins for the latter, it would be a repeat of how Russell Crowe won for Gladiator but not for the Insider -- right nominee, wrong film.

With that said, his rendition of the original Courage theme is DAMN spectacular.

Give Up a try. It's a very good movie (which is why it's a possible contender for Best Picture), and definitely the most adult Pixar film to date.

I think the Incredibles is their most adult film to date, but Up is definitely their most complex and (arguably) whimsical film to date.

The Incredibles is definitely my favorite non-Toy Story Pixar film (Toy Story hooked me when I was 12 so it's going to be my favorite forever). I think The Incredibles has the most sophisticated story, but I think Up has more adult themes (loss, death, reflecting on the life you've led over the life you dreamed of, etc.).

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

Thanks guys...i will most likely give it a try during the holiday weekend when everyone is home.

Neat, a Star Trek first!!

I prefer the Star Trek soundtrack to Up. Up is the first adult Pixar movie, as stated. IMO, it is too serious for the kiddies to enjoy as much as mature adults.
The Incredibles and CARS are my favorite Pixar movies. Both are on my Top 10 Movies of All Time list.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

I have the soundtrack and like certain passages, but I can't say I've listened to it as a serious piece of music on its own merits. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Up, so I can't comment on that soundtrack. It's apparent that Giacchino is a gifted composer and a good fit for Star Trek. I hope he wins one or two of the awards for which he is nominated.

I have yet to see Up, but The Incredibles dealt with a wife thinking her husband was cheating on her....a wife and husband who had a 'healthy' sex life when the husband was becoming a 'super' again...the wife and heroine, Elasti-girl (nuff said)...and so on...

I know I'm missing some things...;)

However, if Up has even more mature themes, that's good. As mentioned in another thread, the fact that The Incredibles was smart and mature was the reason I liked it.

I haven't read the entire thread; it already has been mentioned, but I wonder what some thought about Giacchino's Speed Racer soundtrack...

Bravo on Giacchino getting a Grammy nod....

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

I just found out while checking for Star Trek XII news, awesome!!!

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

This is very good news. I haven't seen Up either, but based on what I have read here I'll give it a look (listen) as well. Either way, I do hope Giacchino takes home a Grammy.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

I say go for the win on ST, MG!! It's among my favorite scores.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

I hope he wins with Star Trek. I really liked Up, saw it 3D and everything, but I loved the Trek-musik.

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod

I think its great Micheal Giacchino got nomanited, espically for Star Trek! He did a amazing job on the Star Trek soundtrack. I just love the music from the soundrack, I play it all the time. The music just blends so well with the movie. I really hope it wins, because it desrves it. As far as the movie Up, I did'nt see it so I wouldn't know what the soundtrack is like. I really didnt care for seeing the movie as it didnt look apealing to me. However I have seen the other Pixar films and do like most of them except for a few of them. My favorite Pixar films are Cars and Finding Nemo, I just love those Pixar movies!

Re: Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Soundtrack Gets Grammy Nod
