I don't want to start another old/new DW argument, but I really have to object to the way you're framing that statement about audience expectations.

I have a degree in theatre.

What I will not tolerate, from any TV show.......that's just demanding the audience do the work of.........creating the world of the story....

How many times do we have to do this, Sci? Do you enjoy repeating yourself, or is it just one of those things where you like to hear/see yourself talk?

Now, you don't have that problem with the original Doctor Who; that's fine. I do; that's fine. You may think that I'm being unreasonable because of my unwillingness to accept DW TOS's budgetary restraints. That's fine.

Obviously none of it is "fine" for you, since you seem to think every discussion pertaining to the production differences in older Doctor Who must always somehow be, personally, connected to you.

But please, don't assume that just because someone has a different set of demands from their TV shows that they therefore lack imagination.

Yes, your demands are different. You demand that productions before the 21st century meet your modern standards. Since that's impossible, it allows you the ability to form a permanent critique against the older Who. Then, you remind us that you have a degree in theater, thus your opinion should be accepted as informed. Otherwise, you would just appear to be one more modern fanboy that's too shallow to get into something you're not already an expert about.

But, luckily, that's not the case.

The, when you say that watching DW TOS takes imagination because of its budgetary limitations and then go on to say that that's something that modern audiences seem to lack, that comes across as incredibly condescending.

Now, I've stated what my opinion is of DW TOS's production conceits, and you've stated yours. I'm not trying to convince you I'm right about DW -- but I do think that I put forth an argument for why someone might object to its production practices without lacking imagination, and I think it would be reasonable and polite of you to concede that a person might not enjoy a low-budget television production without lacking imagination. Claiming that a lack of enjoyment of low-budget TV productions equals a lack of imagination just comes across as rude to anyone who doesn't share your tastes.

And I think you will find that at no point have I insisted such a thing. In fact, you will find that all I said was:

It requires something that a lot of modern audience seems to lack: imagination. Now, it's not the modern generation's fault, though. The standards set by movies and television today is staggering. But, if you can't do without special effects, don't bother with Classic Who.

"A lot" does not mean you, all, or everyone. In no reasonable way was I expressing a blanket sentiment. Nothing resembling "Everyone who hates old Who has no imagination" was posted. You are reading into something that is not there, and making it your own personal cross. Your supposed offense is silly, especially if everyone else understands my point. Get over it and get back on topic...
