Hi all, been sitting here thrashing my brain silly trying to come up with a new design that I have an idea for, but I cant get anywhere cos my brain hurts. In the meantime, I sat down for a hour and knocked this out for a friends RPG thing he runs... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2681/4139159537_814f0edefa_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2697/4139919746_5271c81a91_o.jpg It's not brilliant, but it's free so there you go. It's simple enough geometery, but trying to get a nice surface and volumetric lights for the interior is a bit of a trial. It doesn't need to be super good, you get the idea just looking at the thing, but I'll try and tweak it a bit before I upload it to my website for download. Kenny
What ship is that? It was small On my blackberry until I blew up the image. At first it looked like my delta shaped titan design, but yours has 2 hulls under each nacelle?
Since there's going to be an intentional core breach, the bigger the better, how about Prometheus class (which has three warp cores, and presumably carries more antimatter than typical starships)? The only Starfleet vessels with more bang than that are timeships, like the Wells class or Aeon. A Romulan Warbird (with its quantum singularity) might be an interesting choice, too.
The ship is the USS Bradbury, a mesh I made years ago that I rebuilt a few months ago to higher spec when people wanted to use it for a Trek based RPG. It's a twin hull design from my mate Lance at the ASDB site. The RPG has a developing storyline where the Bradbury is investigating the galactic barrier and discovers a load of dead planet killers, leading into a larger story. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3212/2618299242_c5fa7592a9_o.jpg
Nice looking planet killer! Is it low poly enough for in game use? Will you have any issues with it being converted to use in games. Fan use only and distributed for free, of course.
I hoonestly couldn't say how low-poly it is, there's certainly a few thousand in it. I can always knock out a low-poly version if need be. What's your poly limit? I'll be uploading it to my website for download soon and you can do what you like with it, as long as it's not making you gobs of money and me looking like an idiot.
Hmmm, it's nice to see the Bradbury back in action! I've always felt that it was a bit of an underappreciated design. Very nice ^_^
Are you going to translate the Bradbury RPG into prose & post the story as contemporary fan fic here at TrekBBS?
Not my RPg or story. It's run by the guy who asked for the model, Robert Freedman. The RPG he runs can be found at http://humaxx.proboards.com/index.cgi I believe he was thinking of turning this or his USS Detroyat RPG into a podcast when the 'adventure' was complete. The players would in effect be writing their own radio play or audiobook.
sorry, I guess the question was a bit ambiguous. I typically shoot for around 7K triangles as a max, but can use up to 10k. The lower the better though for real-time rendering, of course.
What format do you intend to offer it, assuming, of course, you post it for public download? I recently modeled one, but I especially like the way you did the craggy edge around the "maw". Sincerely, Bill EDIT: Oops! Silly me! I see you offer the various meshes in LightWave format, so I'll assume this model will follow that pattern.
Yeah, I have lightwave so any format Lightwave can save in (lwo, dxf, obj). My site is slowly being rebuilt with all my meshes, so once I finish putting up all the original stuff I'll start posting up all the models I've made in between, including this one. There's about 100 old models, and I'm at about 40 right now, getting maybe 15 or so up each day. I have to do it at work on the fly because my upload speed is terrible at home.
