Lucky, lucky me!

Yesterday, my new toy arrived. I have treated myself to one of these. So far it is working beautifully, though it will be several days before I get it completely configured. It's an amazing device, so much more than a 'cellphone'. (Indeed, there are those saying it's not a cellphone at all.)

But the amazing good fortune doesn't end there. Prior to ordering, I signed up to the maemo support community to ask some questions. I've been hanging around there, just being me. And I've made loads of new techie friends.

The maemo community have regular events where they meet up to work together on the maemo project (Open Source for Internet tablet/phone). Not being a coder, I didn't think I would be much use at such an event... And then they anounced that the next event would include work on the documentation. Words! My skill.

So last week I got a PM basically saying "If we pay your expenses will you come for a long weekend in Barcelona?"

Well DUH!

Guess who's dusting off her passport and packing her suitcase.

Ain't I lucky!!!!

Wow, sounds like you've had a good couple of days. I'd love to get an N900, but there's no way I can afford one, and I've got another year on my contract so it'll be at least that long until I can one.

Yeah, sometimes the things people ask you to do can really suck. 3 days in Spain, at a conference of geeks (85% young men, no doubt). How will I ever survive?
