Average. Seriously. And at least 30 minutes TOO LONG.

The only reason they can lay claim to the title "2012" is that they threw in a completely forgettable line about the Mayans.

It's great if all you're looking for in a plot is a series of catastrophes killing off people whose faces you don't see and whose fates you don't care about. Sadly, that last part applies to the Curtis family who purportedly represent "Everyfamily" here. John Cusack is Jackson Curtis, the divorced dad who has to practically drag his kids on a trip to, brace for it, Yellowstone Park. Why don't they want to go? Because they prefer Gordon, mom's rich cosmetic surgeon boyfriend who drives a Porsche and gives Noah an expensive cellphone (naturally, Dad disapproves). There's lots of narrow escapes (of course) and tragic deaths -- oddly, in some instances, involving bit players.

I totally regretted that Mt.Dew followed by the large coke I was drinking at the movie. That last 20 minutes seemed really long. I enjoyed the movie. I loved the yellowstone scene with the lava bombs and the city getting wiped out. I took Woody Harrelson to be a mix between Art Bell and Alex Jones.

Amazingly, I found myself disappointed by the /destruction/.

In this regard, Deep Impact was a more plausible global disaster story, in terms of how the government and human beings reacted to the situation.

Deep Impact was a MUCH better film than 2012 overall...

I thought it was good fun without anything being glaringly takes-you-outta-the-movie bad like uploading viruses into the alien ships using a Mac!!

You didn't think the "I've only had two flying lessons, but now I'm suddenly acing this motherfucker like a goddamn fighter pilot" was glaringly bad?

He was just a natural. He made his own airplane from a tree that was struck by lightning. Then when that plane broke he was given another home made plane by a kid he taught and flew it into the lights at the end of a ballgame even though he was bleeding from his side.

I dunno, maybe, hard to say. I'm not you.

Hey, I have a question and maybe someone here can clear it up.

So, as I understand things the earth's plates were just shifting around, right? (Nevermind that they shift around without drasticly altering the apperance of the continents)

At the end of the movie when they pick the location to resettle they mention that some point in Africa is the new highest point in the world.

Umm... what?

What happened that leveled off Everest -and the rest of the mountains on the planet- to make this spot in Africa the new highest point on the planet?

Trekker4747, at one point everything was under water. Africa was the first continent where the water receded enough, or it lifted enough, that there was a sizeable land mass.

I wanna know how all their satellite imagery and stuff was till working.

If you like mindless eye candy with a cookie-cutter plot and cliched characters -- then yes!

Well, hey, he liked Star Trek, didn't he? :D

:guffaw:Heyyy! I liked that one too! I wouldn't say it fit that description...it may not have met your expectations, but it's hardly as mindless as a Roland Emmerich film...

If I remember the dialog correctly, the African continent rose a few thousand feet, sparing it from the tsunamis. And in the process made the highest peak in Africa the highest in the world.

Yeah, they could have saved millions and millions just by flying them to Africa. When the ships arrive they will find that Momar Qadhafi will be their new emperor or some other shit head dictator.
