Implied Doctor/Historical Figure shagging is always good.
Wonder if Tennant deliberately chose to enunciate "Hello" to the Elder Ood in exactly the same way McCoy's Doctor says it to the Hand of Omega in Remembrance...?
I like how they brushed off missing time - this does NOT happen directly after The Waters of Mars, and he has regressed somewhat to his pre-Time Lord Victorious state. I suspect the line in general was meant to give the Doctor a specific gap in which to have plenty of adventures, which certainly includes (but is not limited to) a variety of encounters with a certain River Song...

What they also did was leave one of those wonderful things we Doctor Who fans love - a big, blistering, unknown gap in the story, with room for countless audio, animated, special stories, full of countless new companions, billions of different worlds, any number of additional stories that can be written from here on in without disturbing anything!
Except the aging, of course! I still think they should have had him in old make up!

actually starch what I said before, during the specials the Doctor has been unwilling to take companions, so a series of one shot companions are the most we should be seening from the gaps in between the specials, the books do it quite well, the only one I didnt really like was June from the Siltheen book.

There's Majenta in the DWM comics; she's stuck around for most of the year, and I'm hoping that she gets a departure story, rather than the open-ended story that Destrii has. (Though I do like that Destrii's era is open-ended.)
Tony Lee appears to be planning upon keeping the tenth Doctor solo in the ongoing IDW series.
I believe there is a new companion in the Darksmith Legacy series, but it not read those, so I dont know who or what s/he is.
In terms of the NSA novels, I think my favourite has been Nikki & Rok Ma in Judgement of the Judoon
The Slitheen Excursion had the rather bland & (in my head) quite ugly looking June, who he took back in time, which seemed odd as he says in the TV series he is not really looking for a companion, so I figured he would mostly meet characters in there time, rather than take them somewhere in the TARDIS.
The Taking of Chelsea 426 & Eyeless, he ended up with some kid companions.
I liked Kate in Autonomy, would have liked to have seen her again.
and The Krillitane Storm, I didnt like Emily at all.
I liked "Emma" in The Sontaran Games as well, and I have to confess I didnt see her plot twist coming
that she was a Rutan Host
apart from June these are people he meet in there own setting, he didnt take them to other locations, so they fit in with the Doctor not wanting a proper companion, and are more like Lady Christina in Planet of the Dead
