Do animals ever get bored?

Well, we've already got something like that. It's called a window.

My cats scorn the window, it's not 1080p and doesn't have surround sound.

Mine are all about windows. One of mine would sit and stare at these little lizards that crawl around outside, and we always thought it was really cute until one of them got inside and he ate it.

They sit in the cage, they sit out of the cage, they simply just sit. Give then something to play with and what do they do? they just sit there sometimes just sitting there making loud noises all day.

I know of an animal that NEVER gets bored.............. Budgies.

My Budgies even when you let them out just sit on the top of the mirror or curtains and don't move a muscle, just the same as being in the cage.
They sit in the cage, they sit out of the cage, they simply just sit. Give then something to play with and what do they do? they just sit there sometimes just sitting there making loud noises all day.

Maybe you just have lazy budgies.

I had a budgie when I was a child and he used to love to be allowed of the cage to fly about. He also loved playing with his roly-poly toy penguin and attacking his own reflection in the mirror.

If he sees a large spider in real life he goes berserk.

Considering how deep a sigh our dog lets out once in a while when lying down I'd say, yes, yes they can.

Rocking back and forth can be a sign of depression, or perhaps helps relive it (maybe this is why old people like rocking chairs?) and captive animals can exhibit this sign too.

And I heard on TV once either ex circus horses or elephants get terribly depressed when they've no crowds to entertain.

Every time my dog sighs, it's not boredom - instead she's saying to herself, "Oh, it's you again. Go away."

Parrots get bored. They need more mental stimulation than a cage provides.

Like it's been said (Oh dear. I must be bored: I'm being a parrot LOL), dogs sure get bored. Which is more proof of their inferiority to cats. If cats do get bored, as suggests how they seize every opportunity to play cat and mouse with any string-like thing or other, at least they don't look bored when they do nothing.
