I am investigating the world of Online Dating.

I guess it would make sense to do it sooner rather than later, huh? Probably best to get it out of the way?

She said that over time, even though she wanted to ask, she saw me more as a big brother.

I always cringe at that. :wtf:

Once I hear that, I run for the hills. She might be all cool with big brother nonsence, but not me, if I act all cool with that, I'd be lying to her and to myself, so I pretty much end everything there and so on. I got enough female friends, to the point of it being embarrassing.

Mean to say, yes....but one gets fed up of hearing the dreaded F-word over and over.

You, sir, are full of brilliant advice.

 No, I meant look at it from her perspective. She met a guy online who she seems to like but she has also heard all of the horror stories about internet stalking. If you immediately go "We have to meet up right now!" it might seem suspicious.

RoJoHen, or anybody else that has used it -- how is PlentOfFish?

Heard it's easy to use, and free. But I don't believe the "Free" part. They want you to eventually pay for something, like PMs or certain features, right?

I think there is an option to "upgrade" your account, whatever that means, but they actually stress a lot on their website that it's meant to be a free service. You can post a full profile, look at other profiles, PM people...all for free. However, they do delete all but your 20 most recent PMs to save bandwidth. At least that's what it says. I haven't done that many yet.

He explained it above.

No he didn't.

 For christ's sake.

I like intelligent women because they challenge me intellectually. The fact that my wife is more intelligent than me means that she can challenge me that much more.

Is that simple enough for you, or should I whip up some fucking flashcards?
I think he was getting up on the difference between "intelligent" and "smarter than you." Why not the same intelligence level as you? If you can even measure that...

I would force all potential dates to take an IQ test if I were you.

I always wondered what it'd be like to be with someone smareter than me but...

*puts on sunglasses*

...I doubt I could find 'em.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah.

Exactly, yes. Why is it "smarter than you" that you like, Colonel Green? You see, I have that ridiculous "men are happier when their wives are younger and smarter than they are!" concept in mind (it was in a thread here a while back), and I wondered if you were simply conforming to that.

I don't base my posts on anything but my own personal experience and preferences.

I like a woman would can challenge me intellectually. The more intelligent, the greater the degree of intellectual challenge. A woman who is MORE intelligent than me is better equipped to challenge my opinions and preconceptions than one of equal intelligence. Period.

Let me assure you that this opinion is in no way influenced my any Cosmo articles that may have been posted here in the past.

Don't make me post a flow-chart.

I just wanted to ensure this wasn't another attempt to define relationships around what a man "should" be or want.

I never said anything to suggest that what I was saying was anything other than an expression of my own personal tastes/experiences.

You should probably try to refrain from analyzing peoples posts in terms of the dumbest threads posted here, especially if the poster in question has nothing to do with said dumb thread and never participated in it.

Fair enough, and I apologise if I've offended, but personal tastes are frequently in fact the result of social conditioning. If I lived 100 years ago and said my personal taste in women was for meek, sensitive, quiet, loyal women who were fertile, would you now assume that was truly "personal taste" or instead simply socially-defined standards being expressed?

If social conditioning has lead men to seek intelligent mates (something I'm fairly certain that even the article in question did not contend), I can only see this as a change for the better.

I don't think you understand what I'm getting at.

The feeling is mutual.

Apologies. I was simply concerned that the posts here were reflecting an attitude of "men must have this role in a relationship", an attitude which- along with the wider ideology of limiting masculinity to a few set "types" that I read in other posts upthread- has a lot of personal significance for me.
