As some of you know I've been lamenting for months about getting poor quality shots in low-lighting at work-- and having to shoot in grainy ISO hoping for "lucky" shots of our speakers.

THIS IS THE BEST ADDITION TO MY D80 EVER!!

And it was only like 300 bucks!

Every photog should have a fast 50mm, so good for you. It sucks that F/1.4 costs $300 though.

I have a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens.

They do indeed rule.

I have the Canon 50mm f/1.8... aka, the plastic fantastic. Can't beat the price, but it feels like a toy more then a lens! If it ever breaks, I'll replace it with the 1.4.

They make a cheaper one (F/1.8) in the $150 range with virtually the same abilities, but it's not as sturdy/well-built.

I have the 50mm F/1.8 MkI (metal mount) for my Canon 30D. I would like to own the F/1.4 version but it's rather unappealing. I bought one once but the focus mechanism arrived broken, apparently a common problem for the aging offering. Canon really should make a Mk II version to compete with Sigma's recent 50mm release.
