Of the 11 Trek films made, what are your 2 or 3 favorite ones and why?

Re: Of the 11 Trek films made, what are your 2 or 3 favorite ones and w

FC : Finally get some brand new and good looking ship classes. Epic battle with lots of phasers and torpedos always a plus. As with my TUC rant, the Federation gets another slap in the face. After all those years of TNG where the Federation is depicted as this socialist utopia where humans are pure, Picard turns into a hypocrite and goes on his personal revenge streak without much consideration for the welfare of his crew. Lilly pointed this out quite nicely.
ST XI : I know, its a stupid and shallow summer action movie. That being said, it gave trek the swift kick in the ass that it needed. It brought us back to the classic era with a fun new cast after having to watch Insurrection and Nemesis (to quote Col. Kurtz, "The horror. The horror.") which had pretty much killed star trek for me.

p.s. sorry for chain posting mods :(

I'm really surprised more people haven't listed "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", and "Star Trek: First Contact" as their favourites.

I think it's mainly because we are on a fan site. Not that the fans' perspective has any less value than a more casual perspective, but it is certainly different, even if it is just a matter of having watched something like TWoK to death.

I do think the three you mentioned are the best, though a case could probably be made for Trek 09 on the basis of raw entertainment value, and maybe TMP for the sense of grandeur it creates for those who remain awake.

The Undiscovered Country: I thought that this was the only truly dark TOS story. There is moral ambiguity for the first time.
That was really great IMO. It reminded me of Organia, when Kirk wanted to fight almost as much as the Klingon commander. :shifty:

1. Star Trek TMP.

We are reintroduce to the characters and see the wonderful
Enterprise refit with that great tour around her.. plus the
awesome soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith for me the best arrangement of music.

2. The Wrath of Khan..

A darker and more action orientated story line and the reintroduction of a favourite character that in some way you
sympathise with as he remember his wife killed by a Ceti eel.
and he has some of the best lines
kirks own difficulty with getting old and meeting a son who
has little or no time for him. the great KHANNNNN!.. by kirk.
the Mutara battle and the death of Spock.. (did I cry watching ET....NO.. Did I cry seen the death of Spock..YES.
Music by James Horner .. great direction

3 The Search for Spock.
Horror on Horror the death of the Enterprise .. and the joy
when you see Spock alive and kicking ..
Music again by James Horner

I like the in the order they are filmed really ..

the weakest link is 5 .. but I enjoyed it..

I will add, reading some of the other posts, and thus reminded of things, that there are things that I like in ALL of the ST films...including TMP-the intro'd new Enterprise, that score, that can still give me a 'whoo' feeling.. And TFF, as well. Wrath I could have added, as someone lamented its rarity thus far-epic space battle, Khan, the drma of their conflict, the death of Spoc-thankfully brief...and ST 4 had good doses of humor, with an important message, but it did't impact me as others have...

One can also add, any Jerry Goldsmith score-including the sweeping, grand main theme for First Contact-which I often picture as a nice background for Voyager pulling into Earth orbit in the series finale. AND the timeless Klingon theme! Add that to ST:TMP footage as they attack V'Ger... and the SPFX of the massive machine-entity-cloud-if overused.

3 The Search for Spock.
Horror on Horror the death of the Enterprise ..
Too...
painfull....

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!
:klingon::klingon: those darn klingons :klingon::klingon:

or "you klingon bastard .you killed my son" kirk staggers back and falls to the floor... shock on shock than the Enterprise boommmm!!!! ..

very dramatic and unexpected for me

The Undiscovered Country This is just a really cool movie. And as far as endings go, what better way to end TOS then this? Plus the movie is just awesome visually speaking. I love how the sets for the Enterprise and the Excelsior look in this movie. The battle is really cool, especially the tropedo shooting all the way through the Enterprise's saucer. This movie is entertainment incarnate.

The Wrath of Khan The classic movie. Even after watching it so often I have the dialogue memorized, it still holds my interest. Plus, this has some of the best music in any Trek movie.

Generations Sentimental reasons, mainly. This was the first Trek movie I saw in theatres. But still, there's something about it that keeps drawing me back to watching it.

I am amazed that every Trek movie has eventually made it onto somebodies list, just goes to show that there's a Star Trek movie for everyones taste.:vulcan:

Indeed. Funny how that works out, innit? A friend of mine reminds me occasionally that for everything, there's a fan of it. Simple concept, but hard to really wrap your head around sometimes.

TWOK: The best. It has Khan, the death of Spock, Saavik, the Genesis Device. Great retelling of Moby Dick, with Kirk as the White Whale and Khan as Ahab.

FC: Best TNG film. The Borg Queen is a memorable villain, and the alternate take on Cochrane was a blast.

TVH: Lots of fun. Who doesn't want to save the whales?

Manufactured to make us weep.:vulcan:
I hated the death of Kirk's son in 3 as well. And the "death" of Data in Nemesis.
Death is not a dramatically acceptal device to me when used to elicit emotion on the fly, as was the death of the planet Vulcan in ST09. BUT, So much more was going on in the latest Trek movie that I just accepted it as part of the whole, whereas in Trek 2 & 3 & 10 it seemed to be the focus...
The Shakespeare Syndrome.:shifty:
