Is it true that Paramount is going to shaft us on the DVD extras?

You can buy a blu-ray player for a reasonable price at Walmart.com and also at BestBuy.com.

I tell you they are worth it if you own a HD TV!

Honestly, if I had the means, I'd buy everyone on here a Blu-ray player because the quality is just that much better, and all the features! If I could, I would.

I dont have that problem. I have a PS3, it plays blu rays. I got the PS3 laster year around this time, and been buying Blu Rays ever since. I do agree the blu rays are way better than dvds! I have all 10 Star Trek movies on blu rays including Seasons 1 & 2 of TOS on blu rays. And I love all those on blu ray. I was so amazed by the picture and sound quality. I can't wait for this movie to come out on blu ray next week. I'm actually off that day of the release, which is odd, but very happy about it. My lucky day you can say.I wont have to wait to get the movie, I can just go and buy it, just havent decied where yet.

This new Star Trek movie is supposed to set the new standard for Blu-ray. Sort of like how when DVDs first came about, you showed it off with Terminator 2.

*ST Humanitarian Award for Best Demonstration Of Trekfan Luv 09 to Ghost...

I have a former neighbor with a nice HDTV. Man, would ST look awesome on it!!!! All I have is a regular set, but, ST ups the awesome factor of any screen it's on, so...unless you count the E...aw, man...bet he'd let me watch it on his...

Then there's the extra 20-30% markup on Blu Rays...I can BARELY justify buying some DVDs new at $15-20. $25-30 for a "bare bones" BR is just too much...

Pretty much all major new BD releases this fall are $16.99-$20.99, including HP6, Terminator Salvation, The Hangover, Angels & Demons, Up, GI Joe, Inglourious Basterds, District 9, etc. And some Walmarts have priced them as low as $14.99 this Fall.

"...just sit back and enjoy the blinkenlights..."

Hee! That reminded me of what the late Tom Snyder used to say on his CNBC show, "Fire up a colortini, sit back, relax, and watch the pictures as they fly through the air."

I like extras. The more the better. So, I'll buy the Blu-Ray and spring for a BD player. I mean, I have to enter the 21st century sometime, technologically. Why shouldn't Star Trek by the gateway? BUT THOSE EXTRAS BETTER BE GOOD!!

^ There used to be a whole paragraph that ended with "...sit back and enjoy the blinkenlights." A long time ago, they used to tape it as a sign to equipment in the lab back when I was working at DuPont. I couldn't find it anywhere online, which is kind of disturbing.

The one described here (or a reasonable approximation thereof)?

That's it! "...the famous blackletter-Gothic sign in mangled mock German that once graced about half the computer rooms in the English-speaking world..."

I shoulda just gone to wiki; instead I googled it. Thanks a bunch. It still makes me laugh.

I tried Googling the entire phrase you cited and wasn't coming up with much (apparently the wording varied quite a bit from version to version) so I cut it back to just "blinkenlights" and that did the trick.

Yeah...I did that, too. You just have the touch, I guess. Anyway, that thing might not be as amusing to someone who has never taken German. To me it's hilarious. And most scientists back then had taken a little German in college, I found.

Some familiarity with the language and sentence structure does make it a lot funnier, yes. Ditto Twain's commentaries on the language.
