Rand was intended to be older, perhaps the same age as Kirk, and was meant to be a confidant for Spock. And remember, Grace Lee Whitney is actually older than Shatner is. Thus, a better choice for Rand would be Emily Procter (she's a little old, actually), or Ali Larter.

I love how Abrams casts relative unknowns for many of his projects. Its really exciting to not know the actor and have less judgements about their performance coming in. Which is why I intend on being Chapel or Rand in the next movie.

Either role would be amazing, and Im interested to see how much they include of them in the next one. (If they have both of them or just choose one to add to the cast.) There wasn't much female interaction in the current movie. Which worked quite well, and I enjoyed, but Uhura needs some support!

Let's face it...with the tastes of modern Hollywood and the fact that Kutcher and Lockwood(circa 1965)have a few passing facial resemblances between them I could see Paramount wanting someone like Kutcher to play Gary Mitchell in a future/the next movie. He'd appeal to Gen X viewers and knowing some people in the studio they'd probably think he and Chris Pine would make a perfect young duo to pal around on-screen.
