Was watching Enterprise this weekend. It was the episode where the Feringi board the ship. Not that it was a bad episode, it was okay, but it reminded me why I grew away from this show..

THIS show was supposed to be, at least I thought, about Earth's first ventures into space, with a crew that had no idea what they were going to come across because they were the first. But as we got further into season one, and season two, they just became another starfleet crew..GONE was any notion of doing this the first time..GONE was the innocent nature of the crew..GONE was the attempt to set this show apart from the others..GONE GONE GONE...

I loved Broken Bow as a pilot. I thought it set them up very good...but the show, IMO, lost its way and never became the show I wanted, and thought, it would be...a show about humanity losing its "virginity" in space...

Yeah, Enterprise wasn't what I was expecting either. I've said before I was looking for a "Star Trek: The Right Stuff" kind of show. Brash astronauts, lots of real danger, an all-human crew (and yeah, they can have sex with each other) and situations where the danger is real and people are killed or maimed. The ship has to return to Earth once in a while to report to their superiors (no instantaneous communications), restock supplies (no precursors to replicators), take some leave and visit family, and replace dead and maimed crew members (no alien superdoctor on board) and after a few weeks (and yeah, we also get to see the main cast at home), the ship heads off for a different region of space.

However, my affection for the characters helped me get past my expectations, and I learned to take the not so-good with the good and the occasional terrific.

I'm actually still new to the show having watched an episode here and there, and reading Surak's Soul...

(Actually, I felt the pilot was done in a 'by the numbers' way...not in a sense of 'What can we do that hasn't been done before'?)

The first couple of episodes have a sense that the team behind-the-scenes definitely had a creative burnout, but there are some good ideas there....

... yes, occasional ... episodes like Similitude, Cogenitor, IaMD, Terra Prime, Shuttlepod One ...

Terrific bears the burden of a higher standard...

Just keep in mind -- it's supposed to be old-school sci-fi adventure! Like TOS, Enterprise is not serious business, except those excellent episodes when it is.

totally true...Im not going to sit here and say the other shows were better. All these TREK shows appeal to different kinds of fans, from all walks of life. And thats actually a good thing...

The only thing we all have to agree on is that William Shatner is God..thats all...

My biggest disappointment about ENT not getting a fifth season was that he'd agreed to put in a cameo. Turns out Chef's last name was Kirk.

The series overall had a few problems which I think ultimately led to its demise, but overall it was really enjoyable. For the first time since TOS, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and liked pretty much all the characters. Enterprise, as Jinx mentioned, also had some of the best Star Trek episodes. I wouldn't necessarily name the ones she did, but I think when Enterprise was at its best, it was excellent. When they lost their way on storytelling and worried about silly things, they stunk.
