Was *this* lost era ever dealt with?

^ Because "era" is not synonym for "specific question". Seriously, if you're going to post to a board dedicated to written works populated by professional writers, and demonstrate this kind of misuse of English vocabulary... well, then, your balls are fair game.

However...

Deanna and Will were operating on the assumption that the holodeck program they were watching was genuine. But we now know it was not. So if the program can be wrong intentionally, then Deanna could also be mistaken about what eventually happens to the NX-01. Although I suppose that could have been part of Section 31's fakery as well...

As to the gap between the C&D; the -C was 'missing, presumed destroyed', but would the circumstances of her disappearance be strange enough (The other Enterprises were lost with survivors rescued, and large amounts of debris found) to warrant a slight delay in ordering an immediate replacement? Strange stuff happens in Star Trek (especially to ships named Enterprise). It'd be a bit embarassing to have a new Enterprise in comission a year later....then the -C shows up at a starbase saying [reason here]. After a few years, a new Enterprise is ordered for the new Galaxy class, a class of ships that seems to have had a lengthy design and development time. That combination could explain the otherwise long delay, and wouldn't discount other mitigating factors (tribute, political meddling, etc).

It was missing in the alternate timeline, the one where nobody knew of its role in the Narendra III incident, so there was nothing to keep Federation-Klingon tensions from escalating into war. In the main timeline, it was common knowledge that the E-C had sacrificed itself defending the Klingon colony from Romulan attack, and it was that noble sacrifice that led to the Federation-Klingon alliance.

Um... huh? I must have missed something in the episode that said it was a faked holo-program. Where did that little tidbit come from exactly?

^In The Good That Men Do, as I recall. Didn't Nog and Jake talk about this in the early 25th century part of TGTMD?...or was it Archer and Trip in conjunction with S31 deciding that the record of Trip's death would be faked properly?

I think it was both.

Kaziarl, TGTMD detailed how "These Are The Voyages", as we saw it, was a fake holoprogram created by Section 31. Riker and Troi assumed that the program was genuine; the truth didn't come out until the 25th century. (The reason it was done was to fake Trip's death so he could successfully join Section 31 as a field operative.)

I recall the TNG Tech Manual noting in detail that it took 20 years to build the Galaxy class so that would explain in one sentence why it took so long.

Page 15: 2343: Galaxy Class Project officially approved.

Page 17: 2363: USS Enterprise officially commissioned.

There you go, there's your 20 years.

Wasn't there nearly an 80 year gap between the NX-01 and the 1701?

We have no idea when the NX-01 will be decommissioned (or destroyed).

I thought I remembered "These Are the Voyages..." implying that the NX-01 was decommissioned and made into a museum ship upon the signing of the Articles of the Federation -- presumably because of the important role Enterprise had played in bringing about the founding of the Federation.

Besides, if the NX-01 remained in service after the Federation was founded, that presents us with a problem: The canon has consistently portrayed the NCC-1701 as being the first Federation starship Enterprise. But if the NX-01 continued in service after the Articles were signed, that would mean that the NX-01 became a Federation starship -- and that it would therefore have been the first Federation starship Enterprise.

However, it is true that there's no particular reason to think that other NX-class can't have continued serving after the founding of the Federation. The Daedalus-class ships (which the ENT Relaunch has established is much older than the NX-class) apparently served into the 2190s. Unless every NX-class ship gets destroyed in the Earth-Romulan War, they certainly could continue serving well into the 2200s.

Well cosidering that the NX-class ships seem to be droping like flies I wouldn't be to sure.

Actually I believe Troi mentione in "These Are The Voyages" that she visited the NX-01 which was a museum.

So the Galaxy must already have been on the drawing board when the Ent-C was destroyed, otherwise it would have made no sense for Starfleet not to immediately name another ship the Enterprise. I doubt the admiralty was sitting around going "Well, we don't have any really cutting edge ships now, so we'll wait until we happen to have one before we use the most illustrious name in starship history".

I'm not sure what *did* happen was any better...IMHO, there should *always* be an Enterprise (real or fictional). Once one is destroyed or retired, don't wait, give another ship the name RIGHT NOW. It worked after ST IV, didn't it?

I am sticking with my theory that Starfleet intentionally waited that long, simply because they wanted it as a memorial to the loss of the C's crew. It's the only Enterprise in history to be destroyed with all hands lost, so observe a "moment of silence" where no other ship uses the name, as a remembrance.

This comment makes me wonder if it is know how the Enterprise-B's days came to an end? It launched in 2293/94 and had to have been retired, lost or destroyed prior to the E-C's launch in 2332. Memory Beta presuposses that the E-C was lost prior to 2332, but has it been established on the page anywhere that the ship was indeed lost and not retired or destroyed? Just wondering...

I think Starfleet did that too, but the wait wasn't very long. I believe that once construction of the first Galaxy-class ships began, the decision was made fairly quickly that one of them would be the Enterprise-D. There may not have been an Enterprise in service during that time, but everyone knew there was a new one on the way and the legacy would continue, IMO...

Nothing was ever established before Serpents Among The Ruins, and since it came out the other authors have probably been leaving it alone in case DRGIII ever goes back to it.

^I loved SAtR :techman:. I just recently read it. It was my actually first DRG3 book (currently reading his McCoy Crucible story). Hopefully one day he can bring us more E-B tales, and more Demora Sulu ;).
