Way to go MSNBC, play up the "Allahu Ackbar" angle in the headline as if this was a Muslim terrorist attack instead of any one of a number of similar lone gunman goes nuts and shoots lots of people incidents that just happened to be committed by someone who is a Muslim this time. Very responsible given the potential for people to overreact and blame innocent Muslims. Bravo.

The major apparently was harassed over being a Muslim. I wouldn't be surprised if that played a large role in him snapping like this.

There are a lot of inconsistencies and "sudden rememberances" going on, which is typical in a situation like this. Not only is the media hype on high alert and reporting every little detail, but the revelation the man was Muslim has only further muddied the memories or claims made by those who were there.

After they misidentified the shooter as dead, then suddenly find he's Muslim, and several other details have come out, I won't be trusting anything anyone said or claimed was said/seen until more reliable evidence and witnesses are found. Unnamed sources do not count to me as reliable.

Although the harassment for being different does strike me as a believable and probably a reliable report, I'm not about to take it as fact and say it must have been true and part of why he went on a shooting spree.

I do find it ironic that so many religions preach tolerance, peace and acceptence yet few followers actually do as their religion preaches. Islam does preach those, contrary to many claims I've seen otherwise. It's just as with Christian or Jewish extremists who take the words of their holy book and twist them to their own violent purposes.

Not at all. They should report it if they have multiple accounts of it being said (with qualifiers that saying "Allahu Ackbar" is quite common for Muslims in general and not some special terrorist phrase like some people think it is), but the fact that they placed it in the headline gives it an extra emphasis that is not warranted when this man has no apparent ties to any extremist groups and this kind of crime happens without religious zealotry being involved in most cases. It slants the story towards terrorist act when in fact all signs still point to it being a lone gunman flips out type situation. It's sensationalist journalism and it's irresponsible given the potential for reprisals against American Muslims.

A Muslim saying "Allahu Ackbar" is not necessarily indicative of terrorism or even religious extremism any more than a Christian gunman who thinks he is going to his death saying a prayer.

I dunno dude, maybe we should start eyeballing all these folks who decry "Socialism!" or display a generally right wing attitude. Afterall, in recent years, we have a number of examples of them shooting people or blowing up federal buildings, y'know?
