Nutrek lit vs Primetrek lit

I am simply saying that if the old stuff is Prime Universe, does it not mean that the new is Sub-Prime?

Err, no. I think you're basing that on the "subprime mortgages" that have been in the news lately, but that's a specialized definition of the word, i.e. "at less than the prime interest rate." In other contexts, "subprime" means "inferior, lower in quality." It's a negative value judgment.

The "prime" in "Prime Universe" is not being used in the sense of "best" or "most important," but merely in the sense of "first, original."
Hmm. Really? That's weird. I heard ItsJustSomeRandomGuy say it during a review of Star Trek 11 on his video chat. He loved the movie. I rather liked the term when I heard him coin it.

Oh and here's some of his work.

Perhaps it's the Double Prime universe, ala Lagrange notation? ;)

Perhaps so but it ruins the in-joke if it wasn't the same Archer from Enterprise.

Not necessarily. Why couldn't Jonathan Archer's son or daughter, or grandson or granddaughter, have inherited his love of beagles?

Because that overthinks the joke. Admiral Archer is pretty clearly meant to be Jonathan Archer himself. The movie may not say as much, but the audience is supposed to presume as much.

^ Archer's beagle is like the Delta Vega reference. It's a quick allusion to continuity that you're not supposed to actually think about or try to make sense of.

Argh! Now all I can think about is what medical science in Trek has done to the lifespan of beagles. Can a beagle live a hundred years(What is that, like 1,000 dog years?).

No Porthos cameo?

The lifespan of a beagle is typically around a dozen years. Porthos would be long gone by this point. The reference to "Admiral Archer's beagle" in the movie would have to be to a different beagle, perhaps a descendant of Porthos -- and probably a different Archer as well, since Jonathan Archer would be 146 in the principal timeframe of the movie.

I'm going with what someone posted on the XI forum: Archer was permanently affected by his exposure to the Klingon Augment virus. His lifespan was increased because of this.

As to Porthos.. well Archer seemed to attract temporal incursions like Kirk did. Perhaps at some point Porthos was lost in such an incident and later returned to him, thus being still around when Scotty did his little experiment.

Here's a question about the future nuTrek books: what will they be called that distinguishes them from Prime Trek? (Surely not nuTrek, LOL). There must be something on the cover other than the cover art which speaks of which timeline the story is about.

I would guess the cover would also have the Star Trek text/logo seen in the film to differentiate it from TOS. But we'll just have to wait and see when the covers are released.

I enjoyed the movie. Is it the Star Trek I grew up with? No. That doesn't mean I didn't have fun at the theater. I HAD FUN. The movie entertained me, something I've not been able to say about a Star Trek movie for two or three presidential administrations, with the laudable exception of Galaxy Quest.

That's right. I said it.

Nah, as Trek movies go, Master And Commander: Far Side of The World kicks the crap out of Galaxy Quest...

Nice sig...

They will be called Star Trek, because that's the name of the movie they're based on. They will almost certainly use the movie version of the title logo, maybe use a font from the movie's credits or poster text for the title and author, and feature the movie's cast and/or the movie version of the Enterprise on the cover. Maybe there will also be some cover text along the lines of "Based on the hit motion picture directed by J.J. Abrams!"
