Yes. Much of that bridge is CGI, as the original footage didn't show enough to work for an accurate push-in.

Some of the choices there are pretty poor. If you're going to replace what you consider substandard effects then at least correct some of the more egregious mistakes in the original shots. The end sequence is pretty awful, as the ship is shown flying screen left, then right, then left, then right, like it keeps reversing direction. It might've been that way in the original, but it's a violation of basic directional continuity cinematographically.

Your link goes to a video which won't work ("An error occurred. Please try later.") but the CGI guy walking into the turbolift in the remastered version is a known thing.

The entire bridge is CG during the push-in, as are all the actors, and then they merge with the original footage of the live actors when the virtual camera's angle matches that of the on-stage camera. Considering all of that, it's pretty successful if all you noticed was one animated guy.

    The link works now.

Is this the way of the future? Maybe, in another 20 years, we'll see a whole episode of Synthespians? There was a report in New Scientist that said that full CGI characters make people uncomfortable, as they remind people of corpses!

Looking at some of the remastered comparisons on Youtube, I would say that some of the Enterprise shots look a bit crude. We could be shown tiles on the exterior, if they exist, or more surface detail.

But, hey, they're not bad. I'll be buying them!

I can buy making cgi actors matching the original to match up the zoom in with the cgi shot of the Enterprise, but why add a new guy that looks absolutely terrible?

On the original, you can just about see someone disappearing into the lift. Just about.

I grew up on TOS, and it's goofy effects etc are, for me, part of the incredible charm of TOS. This was the first time i really took a look at the changes made. I seriously do NOT like the remastered cgi stuff at all!

Then you are prejudging the other 79 episodes, and you're prejudging them all based on a tiny clip on Youtube?

Some of the CGI stuff is spectacular.

Seriously.. compare the fate of the Constellation, for instance, in TOSR compared to TOS. IT was really hard to take her loss seriously in the original, since it looked like a badly-build AMT kit with no paint... Or the hideous side-shot views with tiny Enterprises and gimongous shuttlecraft, etc.

I don't like everything TOSR did, but I do admit that they did a lot of actual improvements over TOS. Hell, look at the end of Catspaw to see what I mean.

I've seen just about all 79 remastered eps now, and I'd say maybe 5% of it was either not an improvement or actually detrimental in some way. That means it was VERRRRY successful in its execution IMO.

Yeah, i really was going to. I honestly don't think i'll enjoy the 'improved' upgrades (so to speak)....

And yet, you THERIN and lil bro CHRIS say its great. So ok, yeah, that gives me pause...(because i suspect from being around here for a while, you both are very big TOS fans)

*throws hands up in resignation*.....oK...i'll try some more! :)

BTW, my birthday is this month and i suspect my husband bought me the new and improved set, so i'll LYK as soon as my bd rolls around~

Doomsday Machine will definitely impress you in a positive way. The planet killer is a little on the blue-ish side for my taste, but overall it's the episode that benefits THE MOST from the CGI substitutions.
Happy Birthday in advance, & make sure your man reads this thread!;)

CHRIS, i told him a while back to put TOS blu-ray on my wish list along with Enterprise....let's see how well he listens.

My only real complaint about the new effects is that so often, the lighting is too damn dark.
