Deleted Scene of Spock's Birth

In STV, there was a Vulcan birth in what looked like a cavern. Of course, some people are struck blind by STV, so perhaps it should not be included in the discussion...

My first thought as well. :) I still get a little emotional hearing his first cries in that scene.

I agree it was not a great opening scene. I think the revealing of the little Vulcan baby ears was supposed to have emotional impact but of course we all knew they were going to be there. There wasn't a "OMG that is the infant Spock!" moment which I suspect they were looking for.

Still, nice to see in the dvd. Can't wrap my head around the logic of birthing outside but then their isn't much logic to Kal-if-fee either. No doubt something very deeply meaningful and Vulcanesque behind it.

[emphasis mine] Perhaps the answer may lay in this Universe being tougher for Nu-Spock than Spock Prime had it. At least SP got the comfort of a cave for birthing but here, even that would be too good for 'his kind'.

I keep seeing people around here who have bought the DVD, and I keep getting confused.

Everything I've seen says it's not being released until November 17th.

Came out in Australia last Thursday, officially, but many stores had it on shelves all that week.

No, I don't believe you! A land where you don't have to wait anymore for your Star Trek on DVD and blu-ray, there is no such place, why would Paramount allow such an injustice? It's all a fairytail! No don't try to tell me otherwise...(sticks fingers in ears) LA LA LA LA! LA LA LA LA! I can't hear you! LA LA LA LA...!

At least Sarek wasn't a total dick like in STV when all he could say was, "So Human...". :vulcan:

And...as I said...for all we know the image Sybok drew from Spock's mind could have been based entirely on what Spock was told and grew up believing about his father's partial alienation from his hybrid son. The shot of Amanda in a fire-lit cave and Sarek all but shunning his newborn child could be based almost entirely on Spock's incorrect knowledge of the circumstances surrounding his birth.

Or we could accept that Sarek was an arrogant dick at times. He also didn't talk to Spock for years because he went to Starfleet. So while he loved Amanda, he wasn't so entirely happy with everything. That does happen a lot in the world.

At least in STV, Sarek was present for Spock's birth. Where was he anyway? Maybe he wanted to avoid all the drama?

You mean red slippery mess...
Amanda is human..so I guess any "after birth" and stuff will be "human like"

Little Spock screamed and was covered in red blood, and he didn't even have pointy ears at the time. I understand Sarek's reaction as depicted in TFF.

Heh, thats funny. I watched the scene and it never dawned on me that it WAS very strange to be giving birth outside. Although, i suppose for all we know thats how ALL Vulcan births happen.

I've heard of and seen much stranger locations in which women give birth, so it wasn't that weird to me.

Not to mention the green slippery MESS! :alienblush:

Actually it'd be red...but no matter WHAT color amniotic fluid and placenta are I'd rather eat raw Rocky Mountain Oysters at gunpoint than be standing a foot away from natural childbirth.
