Coyote survives collision with car

I heard the news today that a Canadian folk singer (female) was killed by two coyotes while hiking alone. Now that sounds liek something out of a horror flick.

Coyotes are famously shy. I'm too lazy to go look into the details of it, but I can't help wondering if the media got coyotes confused with wolves, or some other dogs more capable of aggression.

So... you nail a Coyote with your car, and then drive 8 hours with it stuck in the grill before bothering to even casually have a look? That's some unique brain wiring. Besides, don't most people need to stop to use the restroom at some point during an 8 hour cruise? When they stopped at the 7-11 they must have left him stuck in there...

I've ran over rabbits and squirrels with my car before, small enough animal there's no need to inspect what happened the car is going to do far more damage to it than it to your car.

And it's possible to go to eight hours before needing to stop to pee, I've done it plenty of times.

I've hit 3 animals in my life, two raccoons and a porcupine. All three times I pulled over as soon as was prudent out of sheer curiousity. I wanted to know if my bumper was cracked or if there was a piece of animal stuck to my car. All three times there was either a crack in the bumper and/or a scuff mark. The fact that the car is going to do more damage to the animal then the car has nothing to do with it, I don't require the car to be wrote off in order to be concerned about it's state.

You seriously hit an animal and didn't really care enough about potential damage to inspect it? Or were you 5 minutes from your destination anyways and looked at it after?

Strikes me as plain weird to me.

I can't even count the number of animals I've hit, but outside of the time I hit a bald eagle, I've only stopped after hitting deer (didn't have a choice in several cases). I don't mean to sound cold-hearted, but there's usually nothing you can do. And stopping can be dangerous, especially at night or on a busy highway (the coyote was hit on I-80, so I'd think stopping would be very dangerous). Regardless, I would stop if I hit someone's pet, though.

I highlighted the relevant information, I don't think we're in disagreement here. :)
