DVR/Tivo/Media Center viewing

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
I'm currently trying to catch up with some TV. My media center has just has far too much on there at the minute, currently around 170 episodes of shows in total.
It got me wondering do others with DVRs, Tivos, media centers, etc. manage to keep up with their viewing, or end up with more than they can possibly view? And if you end up with more shows than you can watch do you just delete most or keep them just in case you get some spare time to catch up? And what shows do you currently have on your DVR?

My shows:

The Armstrong and Miller Show
Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe
Chuck (10 episodes)
The Closer (6 episodes)
Cloudspotting
Crash (BBC show, 5 episodes)
Deadwood (16 episodes)
Derren Brown: Trick of the Mind
Dispatches (3 episodes)
Doc Martin (5 episodes)
Film 2009
The First Black Britions
FlashForward (3 episodes)
Framed
Friday Night With Jonathan Ross
Generation Kill (3 episodes)
Horizon (2 episodes)
How Not To Live Your Life (3 episodes)
How Stuff Works (5 episodes)
Hung (2 Episodes)
Industrial Junkies (5 episodes)
It's Only a Theory (2 episodes)
James May's Toy Stories
Journeyman (11 episodes)
Last Chance to See (5 episodes)
The Last Days of Lehman Brothers
Last Orders
Life (BBC series, 2 episodes)
Prime Minister's Questions
Lost Land of the Volcano
Merlin
Merlin: Secrets and Magic (3 episodes)
Micro Men
Moments of Impact (3 episodes
Montezuma
Murderland
Panorama (2 episodes)
Peep Show (2 episodes)
Quest for... (3 episodes)
The Red Lion
Red Riding (3 episodes)
Rescue Me (5 episodes
Richard the Lionheart
Ross Noble's Australia (3 episodes
Russell Howard's Good News
Sanctuary
Scrubs (4 episodes
The Shogun
Silent Witness (2 episodes
Skellig
Survivors (6 episodes)
The Thick of It (2 episodes)
True Blood (3 episodes)
Wallander (2 episodes)
Weird Connections
When Boris Met Dave
Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America

Far, far too much to watch of course, but I can only bring myself to delete a few shows here and there in case I actually fancy watching them at a later date.

Right now, we have

Dexter (2 episodes)
How I Met Your Mother (2 episodes)
Lie to Me (1)
Dollhouse (1)
Sanctuary (1)

We've been trying to catch up a bit, so we don't have much hanging around anymore.

I just had a big fight with my Panasonic DVR because the cable fuckers keep monkeying around with the channel lineup and I couldn't figure out where they were hiding Sons of Anarchy last night! :rommie: Anyway, all settled. I certainly hope they keep the frakken channels where they are from now on. Stupid digital transition bullshit has been nothing but a nuisance with no redeeming factor as far as I can tell. Great, I have 100 more channels showing Golden Girl reruns.

Ordinarily, me and the Panasonic are on good terms. I even got those hard-to-find DVD-RAM disks that let you do all that fancy TiVO "channel chasing" stuff without having to subscribe to anything. It's fun being able to give my shows sarcastic names. (Anyone got a good idea for Heroes?)

To answer the original question:

Monday:
8pm Heroes

Tuesday: as of next week
8pm V
9pm The Universe
10pm Sons of Anarchy

Wednesday:
catchup on the rest of the week

Thursday:
8pm FlashForward
10:30pm It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Friday & Saturday:
don't watch TV!

Sunday:
6:30pm At the Movies
9pm Dexter (but I watch that live)
10pm Mad Men

Here are the series I record regularly:

Law & Order
Law & Order: SVU
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
This Week In Baseball
World Series Highlights
Hour Of Power
Corner Gas
<-- but dammit, WGN hasn't shown it in over a month  :(

With most of these, I delete as soon as I finish watching. But I have one thing that I intend to permanently keep. It's a special I recorded from MLB Network called Epic Moments. Basically just a series of clips of, well, epic moments :p like great pitchers, hitters, scores, etc. Not exactly a lot of extended stuff, but I really enjoy watching it over and over. Plus I love the musical score.

I hope my DVR never fails, 'cuz if it does, I'll lose that show...MLB hasn't reran it in a while, and it's not available on DVD.

How big a hard drive do you have? Wow, that's a plenty.
I've got a pile of dvd-rw discs recordings I haven't gotten to yet, and sometimes I will erase them out of frustration just to reduce the clutter.

How about Zeroes?

I love the RAM discs too, they're great for editing out ads on something that you may want to keep.

At present 1.5TB, with 480gb taken up. There are a couple of other things on the drive though, back up of the media center, couple of thousand songs and some downloads, but most of it is TV recordings.

We have 100 hours of storage, but never get close to the limit.

Right now, my season passes are:

Fringe
Dollhouse
Castle
Flash Forward
Numb3rs
Heroes
Monk
Stargate Universe
Family Guy
American Dad

I watch Eureka and Warehouse 13 when they're running. I'm going to check out V and Caprica when the time comes.

Oh, and I watch The Office online, because we have two shows going at that time.

Temis, You finally gave in and got a DVR? Was it when you gave in and got Showtime?

Looks like shows are recording faster than I watch or delete them. There are more shows on there now than when I started making an effort to clear the backlog

How about Zeroes?
That was my first thought but nah, too obvious.

Friggen digital transition horsehocky! Couldn't figure out how to get my antique VCR to work anymore. It was invented before digits. :D

Getting Showtime was unrelated. Finally just couldn't stand waiting for Dexter and risking spoilage!

Sounds like you got one that records directly on to DVD rather than hard drive... or did I misinterpret what you said about DVD-RAM discs?
