Goldsmith reuse of TMP theme...

Ok, so I was watching Ghost in the Darkness on DVD the other day again, when my ears heard what sounded like some of the TMP score worked into his film score for this movie...

Did some digging around and found the track clip on youtube, if you listen to starting around 1:30 on I hear a lot of V'ger music in there.

Is it just me or do you all hear it too. I think this is one of the few times that he's pulled out some of the TMP score for other works.

Here is the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0jbW-uE5ck&feature=related

I don't hear anything in there that sounds like a direct lift of his TMP material ala Horner's reuse of TSFS bits in Aliens. But there is a definite similarity in the overall motif that reminds me of the V'Ger music.

The V'Ger music is, to me, more characterized by Craig Huxley's Blaster Beam. Without it, it's just a similar motif.

And Horner lifted stuff from everywhere for Aliens. TWOK, TSFS, even Khatchaturian from the 2001 soundtrack(opening credits, anyone?)

Of course not. Horner was shameless when it came to reusing his scores. Have you heard the soundtrack for Krull?

True, but I saw the BB use in TMP more as an Effect than a part of the score... TWOK and TSFS used it as more of an instrument in the score than TMP did.

Horner is known for that... I've rarely noticed Goldsmith doing it, at least not until far later in his life, and rarely from the TMP era, he more often reused his electronic action music sound a lot more.

More of a style thing than a re-use. When Picard and Data find the holoship in Insurrection, the music goes Total Recall. US Marshals sounds a lot like Air Force One.

It all starts with "Battle Beyond The Stars," damn him!

I hear "V'Ger" from about 2:00 to 2:04. That's about it.
