Dr. Horrible Comic Coming!

I dunno about others, but I saw this and sent an email to my local comic book store right away, asking them to add a copy of this to my pull file. I just didn't say anything at the time.

I'll probably look at it eventually but I wasn't really impressed with the other Dr. Horrible comics. I just wish that they would get moving on the sequel.

There's a nice piece of art by J Scott Campbell knocking around on the webs for this.

How do you read a musical in comic book form, anyway?

The music MADE the original thing. Bring on the sequel, I say.

Mark

I'm a wait for a trade kind of guy.

You did read the link, right? It's a one-shot. That means there is no trade.

There's always a trade. They'll package it in somewhere, you really think comic books companies will not double dip consumers?

Actually, there isn't always a trade. Rarely are one-shots reprinted in trade form, unless there are several one-shots from a particular series that can be repackaged together. Are you aware of other Doctor Horrible one-shots that have been printed? If so, please, share your knowledge.

Eek. I typically hate comics... but making a comic out of a musical just sounds like a terrible idea. The songs are what make Dr. Horrible. That and Neil Patrick Harris. Without those there's no point.

Well there hasn't been any other Dr. Horrible comic except the My Space comics. And with the (eventual) success of this one probably won't be the last one. So they could a) package the my space and this comic together if it doesn't do well... or b) package it with other Dr. Horrible comics in the future.

In regards to one shots.

Well.......

Fables Last Casle was reprinted in Fables Vol. 4. Ex Machina had tons of one shots. Inside the machine reprinted in vol. 6 & Ex machina Halloween in vol. 8. But this sort of ties into your "packaging theory"

But.. The famous, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? was reprinted a whopping 3 times!!! Once as TPB. Another jammed in as a Alan Moore Superman special. And I believe I saw a hard cover kicking around.

Ohh and I forgot the Killing joke too.

I can probably think of more too if you would like.

I'm guessing this is just the first of a bunch of Dr. Horrible comics that will whet our appetites for a sequel.

I don't get this. How do you put a sing-along blog into comic form? Why would you want to? The whole POINT is the music.

I've never been a comic book fan, but I could at least see the appeal when they did the Serenity comics. This completely baffles me.

Sigh...there was a lot more to Dr. Horrible than just the musical it's self. Like the actual characters and their back stories. The music is a big part of it yes, but if you're not attached to the characters then what does the music do? I was immediately interested in Billy's backstory and how he became Dr. Horrible and the Evil League of Evil, along with Captain Douche...errr Captain Hammer lol. I'll be picking this up. Unless there are more one shots that compose some kind of overall theme then like the others have said I doubt this will be put into a trade.

They should make a comic book musical. With text that rhymes. and notes underneath each line! And then, for some of us musically challenged, readings could be organized where a couple of your talented friends sing through the panels!
