How has this movie changed Classic Trek history...?

My position is that the Spock and Nero we saw came from an alternate universe in the first place (which would explain why Spock didn't immediately begin his calculations for a time warp to correct the whole mess, and why he thought Kirk should've been a captain at the age of 25; this Spock never had the same experience with time travel as "our" Spock, and his Kirk made Captain significantly faster).

Further, they time travelled back to an alternate timeline, either their own or yet another one, and proceeded to screw up THAT one, leaving the mainline Star Trek universe completely unmolested.

They wanna play the alternate universe card, well, this is where it leads once you open up that door.

A tidy way of saying that Abrams was depicting the dumb-and-dumber universe.

It leads to guys on the internet making grand pronouncements?

This totally insulates the prime universe, PU, from the JJverse.

I like this so much, I'm going to tell people I thought of it.

Today I learned that some of my new coworkers were Trek fans. Everything cooled a little (but not really for long) when our differing opinions on ST09 came to light. They thought it was great fun and so on. I just said I didn't care for it one fucking bit and chose not to elaborate further because we're all just getting to know each other at this point and I didn't want to upset or offend anyone...

...until I know them better.

It hasn't changed a damn thing, because it never had anything to do with Classic Trek history.

They started from one alternate universe, leap frogged back to another alternate universe and screwed up the timeline of that one. The never came near the timeline we know.

I keep telling myself that too.

I had thread over in Trek XI dedicated to that idea. I think it's been pruned...

From my limited understanding, Spock would have to travel through a wormhole back to his original Universe and then do a time warp to "correct" any errors in his Universe's past. Of course there would be no guarantee that a new wormhole would take him to his original Universe or just another alternate. Nor is there any guarantee that the changes would have any bearing on the Universe he just left.

I think it's just far simpler to accept that this is a total reboot that has zilch connection with TOS despite Leonard Nimoy's appearance.
