I liked Star Trek XI a lot, it was great to feel proud as a Trekker again. That being said, it is the beginning of a potential new saga...whereas First Contact was a triumphant moment in the ongoing TNG saga, and part of the original Trek movie juggernaut...we had invested in these characters for years and that film was their finest cinematic 2 hours. It was not just a great Trek adventure film, but it also unfolded part of Trek's historical mythos and provided a hopeful vision for humanity's future. I wish they could have duplicated that success in some fashion or another for another TNG film.

What I find surprising is how badly Star Trek XI is fairing in all these polls recently. A few months ago it felt like heresy to make any form of criticism of this movie, let alone argue it was mediocre compared to some of the other Trek movies (which the polls seem to indicate as the general opinion at the moment). At the time it was being supported so vehemently by what seemed to be the overwhelming majority that I am truly amazed at how quickly this has changed. :vulcan:

I am shocked beyond belief as well. When the movie came out, this forum went fucking apeshit over it. Now when the hype has died down most seem to have a better look at it compared to the other films.

Me though, I prefer STXI, it had Nimoy in it :techman:

FC is the only TNG movie worth half a damn, imao.

This is certainly true.

I far prefer Abrams' movie - both FC and ST 09 are grounded in pretty straight-ahead action adventure with a little humor, and ST 09 delivers a lot more in those respects.

For one thing, I'm buying thirty-year old Kirk doing all that superhuman running and jumping a lot more easily that pushing-sixty Picard.

First Contact all the way. Greaty movie, really enjoyed it and wanted to see it again in the cinema after I saw it the first time and again wanted to view it as soon as it was available to rent. Didn't feel this was about Trek XI. Didn't view it a second time.

TWOK was the best TOS film btw.

Sorry, no.
Well, yeah, actually. In fact, of all the Trek movies outside of the TMP, TFF had a solid sci-fi idea at it's core which, whilst poorly executed, is still better than anything Trek XI presented.
Nothing that ought to impress anyone at least as sophisticated as a bright middle school student. ST:TFF is tripe. Really nice looking in many ways, because the Trek artists were always good even when everyone else was letting the Franchise down.
What does that even mean?

I think it is because there are fewer people visiting the BBS than back in May.

But it´s not just the new movie that is being criticized right now.
I see a lot of negativity towards all things Trek now on Trekmovie as well. The comments about Star Trek:Online and the Nero comic are very negative.

:cardie:omg man first contact was far and away the best of the two it relly brought out the bad ass in the borg not only that but there is the hole conection with enterprise . you have to love the bring a bit of trek history to the general publice with how we got warp drive Zefram Cochrane

If this poll was done in May it would not look like this, wouldn't you agree?

Star Trek 11 failed to suck utterly, so Star Trek 11. This is the easiest decision I expect to make today, including decisions regarding using the bathroom.

First Contact had a cadence, meaning it didn't try to go from point a to point b as quickly as possible. It had real sets, good character moments, and a captain who wasn't afraid to admit his fault. I would rather hang around with a 60, heck even 70-80 year old Picard than that Douchbag of a character Kirk from 09.

I was glad to see an imperfect Picard who demonstrated that he had depth and was definitely a three-dimensional character which is my favorite kind. He changed and grew though out the film which also saw Data go through the same kind of process, though in his case was tempted by the Borg. A great movie indeed, but right now I still prefer XI for its emotional content.

Well I actually like them both but Star Trek XI is my favorite.I loved all the excitment and the new look of the Enterprise, it just took my breath away!

I enjoy both movies, each having their excellent moments. However, for myself, Star Trek XI is just hands down the best choice between the two.

J.
