Boy trapped in homemade balloon...

I'm surprised at the level of contempt for this guy. He's definitely got his short points but we see far, far worse in the news every day. He's pretty small change as far as bad people go.

People are pissed off because they wasted their own time following the story and being concerned.

That's the main thing: Everyone was terrified that the poor kid was dead and they may have just been playing with us.

It gets better and better.

Balloon dad has criminal past

Richard Heene, the father who allegedly masterminded a stunt where he had authorities believing his 6-year-old son was stuck in a homemade balloon, has a criminal record in LA and was sentenced to jail, according to a report released today.
The celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported that Heene was arrested in April 1997 and charged with misdemeanor vandalism, vehicle tampering and disturbing the peace.
On April 15, 1997, Heene pleaded no contest to vandalism and the other charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years probation and ordered to pay restitution of $100.

It appears from the court record Heene served only 4 days and was then placed under house arrest.

Wow! He served 2 days in jail and the house-arrest 12 years ago for misdemeanor charges of vandalism?! The guy is a complete fuck-bag!

I think I was mainly concerned about how utterly terrified the child would have been if he was in the balloon.

Once the whole thing was over, I felt like I had gotten free entertainment. There's definitely a cool-factor here that I'm surprised more people don't appreciate.

And I don't consider a crazy 2012 believing douchebag who sits there as his child vomits waiting for his big break to be "cool".

Not me. I was kinda entertained, and then it was all's well that ends well. I realize that a lot of valuable resources were wasted, as well as rescuer's time, if indeed it was a hoax as it seems to be, but I just can't get personally worked up about it. I didn't affect me one iota. I agree that if it was a haox he should be punished, but if anything I feel kinda bad for him. Now he has egg on his face, people want to tar and feather him, etc. If it was a hoax I think he should have covered his tracks better. It was sloppy.

I am amazed at the number of people that thought it was real. More amazed at the number of people that think he should go to jail.

It could have been real odder things have happened.

He also broke several laws and might have endangered his kids. You break the laws you go to jail. You don't think he should go to jail?!

To jail? For what? Being stupid. Maybe I missed it but did those Cartoon Network ad folks go to jail for their stunt that cause a bomb scare? What about the people that were going to give him a show based on this? Should they go to jail too?

There are real criminals out there, this guy is not one of them.

He also thinks EVERY rock on Mars is an alien body part.

Maybe he really believes that but I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of his publicity thing. Similarly, I doubt that he believes Hillary Clinton is a shape-shifting reptilian.

Well said, sir. Bravo! :techman:

I've stated three times, in this thread, that he should be waterboarded.

He should be sent to Gitmo for some waterboarding.

There, that makes it four times.

Go back a couple of pages and read up what some of the charges are. Guess what? Criminal. Just because you don't think it's a serious as murder doesn't mean what he did should be shrugged off.

Or do you feel everyone should have a hearty chuckle about this and then everyone goes home?

If found guilty.

For what?
Including but not limited to:conspiracy contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and attempting to influence a public servant. I would expect Federal charges to spring up from affecting air traffic out of Denver and the involvement of NORAD and the FAA.

Being stupid.
And breaking the law.

Two local artists whose guerrilla marketing stunt caused a day of bomb scares in the Boston region -- and then fueled public outrage by appearing to make light of the incident -- apologized in court yesterday as prosecutors dropped the criminal charges against them.
As part of a plea agreement, Peter Berdovsky, 27, and Sean Stevens, 28, both of Charlestown, had already performed 80 hours and 60 hours of community service, respectively, at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, where they used their artistic talents to design a mural for a waiting area.

They had to pay 2 million dollars in restitution to the city of Boston, a Cartoon Network exec lost his job.

What about the people that were going to give him a show based on this?
The show wasn't based on this, it was just to drum up media attention.

Should they go to jail too?
If they told him to do this or were complicit in any way. Yes.

There are real criminals out there, this guy is not one of them.
He broke the law. Several laws. He's a "real criminal".

Usually I say, who cares about the law. But this guy cost a lot of money, tied up a lot of resources.....he needs to pay restitution.
Jail's kinda dumb.
