The Amazing Race - 10/11/2009 - (Live Commentary/Discussion)

Sorry - don't buy it.

The Kennedys were labelled as American royalty. They were EXTREMELY famous and it was my understanding that all American students learn as part of history at school is AMERICAN history.

It is just plain ignorance.

And? I learned Canadian history in school, and I'd probably be hard-pressed to recognize a blurry photo of a Canadian public figure from 40 years ago.

I'm in my early 20s but I knew who it was. But I was a History major, so maybe that's unusual.

Actually, I'm certain that pretty much everyone my age knows who she is, but they probably haven't seen many pictures of her. It's something you read about in a textbook but don't see videos or photos of really.

How many Canadian public figures from 40 years ago are as famous and recognizable worldwide as Jackie Kennedy?

Okay, well let's take Lester B. Pearson. He's a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, former Prime Minister, and generally a very well known name. I doubt that many twenty-something Canadians could identify him from a picture, though, even though most would probably know the name.
