I don't know if NCIS is a eries high but it wouldn't surprise me if it was that show just keeps growing and growing. I've got a few bones to pick with that Live Feed survival chart...

Heroes is not ok its virtually dead, the show is expensive to make and I don't buy the world wide audience saving it anymore those ratings are simply awful and costing NBC money. The only saving grace would be that NBC can't cancel everything ;) The same goes for Community. I would rate Mercy's chances a lot higher than the rest due to the total viewers.

I'm pretty confident that Heroes will at least finish out the season, but that's probably the end. NBC needs time to get a replacement, and they just don't have anything else now.

But I would say with almost complete certainty that it doesn't get renewed after the season ends.

Theres no doubt NBC will air all episodes I just hope Tim Kring has a Series finale ready and not season. With the worldwide ratings a movie could happen in the future but even that would be doubtful.

We don't have info on the production cost; how much product placements might offset that; what NBC pays to air the show; and the international revenues. I don't know if THR Feed or tvbythenumbers (which concurs with THR Feed) have those stats either but being professional journalists who follow the industry, they'd be in a much better position to find out than we are.

We also don't know if Heroes is "costing NBC money." It could be that all their shows make them money; the decision to cancel a show may be not because it loses money but because it makes less money than what they might replace it with. So another crucial factor is what NBC has planned for 2010-11 and their confidence level that those shows would be any more of a success than this fall's disaster area of a lineup.

If somebody does have those stats, I'd be interested in seeing a link...

Nobody cares about total viewers. Only the demo counts. Mercy's demo is worse than Heroes which is why it's on the cancellation lists while Heroes is "okay."

I'd be surprised if it's renewed and after they resolve the
Nathan Sylar thing
I don't see what they'd come up with that would be worth watching anyway. But if it is renewed, I'd really want to know about international revenues because that would have to be a major factor. It's the most pirated show in the world; that suggests a massive level of global awareness that a crippled network like NBC might not be able to ignore.

Poor Kelsey Grammer. Just can't seem to make anything work outside of Fraser.

And Smallville is on the chopping block. Interesting. Guess they've beat that horse to death.

To be fair Hank is horrible and Fox screwed him over last year.

Well I actually liked the show he had on Fox (already forgot the name). Hank has actually kind of grown on me a bit.

But then I really liked Worst Week on CBS last year so WTF do I know?

Me too, I remember now, it was called Back to You. He was told the show would be on after American Idol, what a surprise Fox lied!

ABC should have picked it up, much better than Hank.

It's been talked about that Heroes cost 4-4.5 million an episode, no way dirt cheap NBC can keep that around, hell they canceled Southland that had more viewers (overall anyways) and that cost only 1.5 million.

I find it hard to believe Heroes costs that much an episode given the lack of FX.

And if you make a claim, can't back it up, why use rolleyes?

I read article that stated $4 million per episode was the cost of episode during season 1/2, then there was some budget cuts during season 3 and at the start of season 4 some more (around 300-500k cut per episode). So my assumption is that it cost now around $3 million per episode, so with current ratings it's not profitable just based on tv ads, but add to that online ads, dvd/bd sales, which are still good and international license sales in long run it'll be profitable.

On the other hand Trauma that costs $3-4 million per episode i don't see being profitable even in the long run.

Got a link to a reliable source on that stat?

No because I don't go around saving links on stats.

Riiiight. We know that's the reason. :rommie:

If there was any truth to that figure, it's probably years old. Since then, the show has been forced to cut its budget to stay afloat.

And if you make a claim, can't back it up, why use rolleyes?
It's obvious he's pulling that stat out of his ass, so what other recourse does he have? (I certainly did not expect a link to magically materialize in response to my original question.) :rommie:

That sounds a bit more plausible, even without a link. ;) Online ads and DVD sales are still a tiny proportion of the whole financial picture for TV as a whole. Heroes is most likely getting a larger chunk of its revenues from those sources than average, but I'd be surprised if it was enough to make a real difference. The real wild card is the international market, which reportedly is helping prop up other shows, like Supernatural, that might otherwise be in trouble. Also helps the unnatural longevity of the Stargate franchise.

The 4-4.5 million was for last season, this season obviously have seen cuts. Either way most dramas on TV cost 2 million an episode now, and Heroes nows how to waste their stories, their show and most likely their money

Three million without a link is reasonable when 4 million is not?
