network Morons

I think that the government, yes those guys, should pass a law to stop these network shows from running over a minute into the next hour. They do it to cheat the ratings, but by doing so, they screw up the DVR users out there, another reason they do it. I had to out and get another cable box so that I can record FOUR shows now at the same time, and two of them only for a mintue because they run over into the other two shows...thats stupid...

I'm with you-the next time Bones or Desperate goes 61 minutes I'm gonna freak! Lost Heroes last week because the dvr kept saying there was a conflict-over a single minute! Grrr.......

If you think it's just the US networks who do this, think again. On the BBC it's not uncommon for shows to run a few minutes short or as long as 20 minutes longer than usual. They've done that with Doctor Who a number of times. Imagine trying to set a DVR for a show that runs 45 minutes one week, 50 the next, and then they toss in a 72-minute episode. And worse yet, as anyone who watches Who on the BBC can attest, the start times tend to fluctuate week by week, too...

I never complain about a few extra minutes of Lost, but since all their shows afterward have sucked, I hope they don't try to force us to watch something new in January.

I always pad my schedules with two or three minutes. More, if it's a show that tends to have last minute twists like Lost. See, easy. No need for the heavy hand of the government to descend.

You watch too much TV! I don't have any two shows that conflict - I barely can find one thing worth watching per night. Yay for the shitty state of TV!

Yikes. Now that would get me writing to my congressman! :rommie:

I never watched so much TV as I do now? Why now? I GOT MARRIED..and then, poof, I'm watching BIGGEST LOSER and GLEE and..well...maybe I am satisfying my inner gay side. I don't know man..NOT to say that watching GLEE means you are gay..and nothing wrong if you are gay...you know what I mean!!!

Nope. Watching Glee is pretty gay.

I was writing an email to a gay friend of mine today, suggesting new shows he might try since the new Stargate wasn't hitting the spot and Smallville (he's having trouble understanding that he's growing up and that the same tv that was awesome 10 years ago, is bollocks now because he's outgrown it.)was just making him angry, and I actually had to think about if I should talk about Glee without seeming condescending? I love the show and I'm totally in the vagina game, but is he going to think that I am sexually profiling him by offering an extremely gay friendly show?

I have a few hundred channels. There are occasional conflicts where I have to cancel a recording because I only get two at a time. I'm with my girlfriend all the time now and she usually finds a show that I have no interest in to cancel out a show I like. The worst problem is that damn one minute over shit. I'll have two shows recording followed by another one on a different channel. One of the channels must change for the other show and I lose the ending of the offending show that is running late. Heroes is usually the one.

In Australia shows run over all the time, either too many ads (it's an ongoing issue the Govt. is about to address) or they're 'live' reality shows they deliberately let run over to cut into the audience switching to a popular show on another channel. It really is that obvious. Why something isn't done about that is beyond me.

Having shows overlap one another originally started to allow advertisers to insert another commercial break during shows (rather than place one after it) and to deliberately keep audiences from switching to another network before their next program begins.

TV networks couldn't care less if you miss the first minute or so of another program on another channel. They probably see it even as a good strategy against their competitors, IMO...

yep..and so the government should pass a law to stop it..they are out air waves right? Well..come on Barak, put that Nobel Peace prize to good work and get it done!!!

I'd say go for it.

But any pop-conscious gay probably already knows about it anyways, if not for the style of the show itself then at least for the Kristin Chenowith episodes.
