Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X-Men

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

^ I personally think the whole trend for re-booting or ignoring the previous movie(s) is getting tired. Rise to the challenge, Bryan, I say. There are plenty of characters as yet unused in the X-Universe to replace those who have died or lost their powers.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

By ignoring I essentially meant not bringing up those events or characters. That doesn't negate that Rogue lost her powers but since we don't see her it's not an issue (her roles in the films were getting gradually marginalized anyway). That's just an example. I think Xavier for one should remain dead. Cyclops is debateable.

I'd like to see Genosha that perhaps Magneto creates in wake of the Cure. I know that conflicts to my idea of "ignoring certain events in the last movie" but it would be interesting to see a powerless Magneto as the creator of a mutant stowaway, a place outside of normal jurdisdiction where mutants can go to feel safe.

I'd like to finally see the Sentinels implemented somehow. I'd personally love to see Singer's take on Days of Future Past. You could almost tie it into the continuity of the last film pretty well.

I maintain X3 was awesome.

You bastards can go to hell!

(Runs away sobbing)

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

I've posted this idea before in another thread, but if Singer were to come back why not call his movie X3? :)

because X3 is canon, besides who would they get to replace the oscar winning vinnie jones?

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

Only a couple of years too late. The franchise has been f'd royally by X3 and then Wolverine. Ugh.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

^ especially if you picture Brett Ratner as the poster.

(Although, f*ck it, I enjoyed X3 too ...)

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

I would like to see a storyline for X4 similar to Wolverine and the X-Men. Since all of these films seem to centre around Wolverine as the main character you could have a storyline revolve around Wolverine trying to get the band back together again as a new threat emerges. Personally I'd love it if the new threat was En Sabah Nur, I'd love to see Singer tackle Apocalypse! There is now an excuse to unlease Project Wideawake upon the mutant populance after the mess with the Cure. The Sentinel tease inside the Danger Room at the start of X-Men 3 was pretty nicely done. The roster would be a problem. Here is mine:

-Wolverine
-Beast
-Kitty Pryde
-Ice Man
-Colossus
-Angel
-Storm

Perhaps the introduction of Emma Frost since we know now she exists. Gambit could also join.

I really did too...but then, I am not one was fully immersed in the X-Men comics...but I still can tell it was MUCH better than those wretched Fantastic Four films and Ghost Rider...and Hulk.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

My problem with that is if you essentially undo everything X-Men: The Last Stand did thematically then you basically take away what made that film even slightly watchable which was that it took risks and altered the course of the franchise. By bringing Xavier back, for example, makes his sacrifice useless. By giving Rogue back her powers removes the impact that was made by her weighty conflict in that film (and while I don't approve of Rogue taking the cure for the message it sends -- I do understand why she did it).

That is just one of the many reasons why an X4 providing it canonizes the last film is treading dangerous waters. It would be better for Singer to just ignore it or start over. I think a sequel is possible but who would want to adhere to that set of creative limitations? Unless Singer views it as a creative challenge.

Like I said earlier: the Singer-verse is done. Let the thing rest in peace.

Give us a new interpretation of the franchise in a few years that gets back to it's four color roots (and preferrably is done as a feature length cell animated).

I liked X-3 for what it was, but no way in Hell was it better than F4 and F4 2...

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

^I have to agree. I was at least able to sit through the FF movies. I hated X3 so much that I left with around 30 minutes left in the flick. Something I've never done before.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

R U kidding me?! Those F4 films were TERRIBLE!!!!

Especially the second one with the way they totally trashed the Galactus character.

I barely made it through either one of those...really...

The F4 films were FAR better cast with actors with a great deal more charisma and chemistry and were much more faithful to their souce than the Singer-verse with it's "minimalist " approach to heroics and "beat you over the head" soapboxing.

Furthermore they were just plain more FUN than the X films.

Don't get me wrong, I like BOTH franchises, but F4 was by far the better of the two, and I have ZERO interest in more Singer-verse projects.

Time to let someone else show us a new X-verse, preferably one more in keeping with it's source material.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

For me, the difference is the casts. Bryan Singer assembled a stellar cast for the X-Men movies, which Ratner was largely able to maintain & add too. You had excellent performances from Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, Alan Cumming, Brian Cox, & Kelsey Grammer as well as some nice new discoveries in Shawn Ashmore & Aaron Stanford.

On the flip side, the cast for the Fantastic Four movies was terrible. Michael Chiklis as the Thing was just about the only thing they got right. Chris Evans has a decent amount of screen presence. But otherwise, the film totally misfired with Ioan Gruffud & Julian McMahon as Mr. Fantastic & Dr. Doom, the 2 most important characters in a Fantastic Four adaptation.

Chris was everything Johnny should be: loud, brash and flashy. And him and Michael played off each other perfectly.

I just don't get all this Ioan hatred. He's the quintessential "absent minded professor" and a bit of a nerd, which is Reed Richards in a nutshell.

Julian underplayed Doom a bit from the "Prattling Dolt! Fear me for I am DOOM!" version in the comics. This ONE time I think it was the right choice. He still managed to portray the arrogance and elitism of Doom, and mantained the rivalry connection with Reed quite well.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

My criticisms of the "Singer-verse" lay solely on the shoulder of the non-Singer movies. I would never say that the FF movies were beter than X 1-2, because clearly, they are not.

The FF movies were adequate at best and absolute drek at worst (I actually enjoy the Carpenter FF movie more than the "official" movies). IMHO however, the only bad casting in FF was Jessica Alba as Sue and the guy who played Doom.

I don't, however, think that the FF movies were Hulk-Daredevil-Electra-Ghost Rider bad.

X3, OTOH & IMHO, was Hulk-Daredevil-Electra-Ghost Rider bad. As I mentioned upthread, I couldn't even stand to stay in the theater until the end.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

The Fantastic Four movies were hardly Fantastic but they didn't suffer from bad casting...except for Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, I'm sorry I know she was the IT actress the time but that was bad, although she did meet her husband on the set so it worked out for her. Julian McMahon would have played a better Doctor Doom but there was too much Ultimate FF influence in this movie for me. Galactus was a take on his ultimate counterpart I think which was this weird ecological monster/space creature. Silver Surfer was about the only really good thing in FF2. I'd love to see a FF film with this cast but more in tune with the 616 universe.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

Things I require if Singer does X4 (and which require X3 to be not-ignored):

Ellen Paige as Kitty Pryde (with an increased role)
(much) more Colossus
Kelsey Grammar's Beast
Shawn Ashmore's Iceman

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

I'm another who will be there on opening day. I enjoyed X3, but it was no where as good as X2 and was on par with the original.
