Your Favourite Powerful TV Moments....

From the Wonderfalls finale "Caged Bird," the scene where Jaye breaks down to Sharon about Eric leaving.
"I let him go. I had to let him go. I didn't want to let him go. I wanted to keep this one."
It's very powerful for 2 reasons. Firstly, the romance between Jaye & Eric is a very palpable one. Almost as difficult & intense as this scene is the scene 3 episodes earlier where Eric gets back together with his wife in "Lying Pig." Jaye & Eric are such a heartbreaking duo. Secondly, the fact that Jaye would allow herself to be this emotionally vulnerable in front of Sharon says a lot about how far their relationship has progressed in such a short time.

The first thing that comes to mind when you mention powerful and memorable scenes is the sequence in Twin Peaks in which we - the audience - find out who Laura's killer is. A very, very disturbing scene.
"It's happening again! It's happening again!" :(

The scenes of
Leland's death
a few episodes later was also quite powerful, but nothing beats the one mentioned above.

The ending of season 1 LOST episode 'Walkabout' was very powerful, and it was what hooked me to the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYfKHVdmjzQ

Also, the ending of season 3 finale is unforgettable, if you weren't spoiled.
In addition:

Battlestar Galactica had many powerful moments - first that come to mind:
- Adama's two speeches in the Miniseries
- the end of "Flesh and Bone" with
Roslin airlocking Leoben
(though I am tempted to say, every Leoben scene in that episode)
- the opening montage in "Kobol's Last Gleaming", part 1
- Boomer/Baltar scene in "Kobol's Last Gleaming"
when he makes her try to kill herself
- the ending montage in "Kobol's Last Gleaming", part 2
- the end of season 2 episode "Resistance", i.e.
Boomer's death
- when Baltar first sees Gina in "Pegasus" and when he gives her a speech about Caprica 6
- Chief and Helo saving Sharon ("Pegasus")
- the cliffhanger at the end of "Pegasus"
-
Adama and Cain do not go through with the assassinations
-
Baltar sets Gina free
- Caprica 6 and Boomer's decision at the end of "Downloaded"
- the Gina/Baltar sequence and the "one year later" scene it continues into in the season 2 finale
- the end of "Occupation" with
the first suicide bombing by Duck
- Tigh
poisons Ellen
- Lee's speech in "Crossroads" part 2
- the ending of "Revelations"

The Sopranos had many powerful moments as well - I've seen the early seasons a while ago so I may not remember all.

The first one that comes to my mind is near the end of early season 1 episode "College", after Tony has - the entire episode was powerful and it was the first one that really got me into the show, but a moment that sticks in my mind is Tony looking up to see the writing on the college ceiling - a brilliant use of the quote from Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter: "No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself, and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be true."

Tony's final confrontation with Gloria; and in a later episode, his creepy dream about her after
he's learned of her suicide
.

Tony and Carmela's breakup in the season 4 finale, when they throw it all in each other's faces.

Many death scenes are very memorable, of course: in season 2, and the weird dream that Tony has of him as a talking fish later on (and that darkly humorous scene when he is given a singing fish toy as a birthday present and looks like he is near having a heart attack. :rommie:

In season 3,
Ralph's murder of Tracy
, and in season 4, Tony
murdering Ralph and disposing of him, with the camera focusing on the picture of Tracee on the Bada Bing wall
.

And the death scene that shook me the most, in season 5 "Long Term Parking"
Adriana's death - she was such a childlike character, it was hard not to feel sorry for her.

However, perhaps the most powerful scene of all was at the end of S3 "Employee of the Month", when Melfi
although tempted to tell Tony about her rape and her rapist walking free due to a technicality, which of course would mean Tony would have him killed, ultimately remains strong and does not betray her principles.
Also, the scene with her psychiatrist friend from the same episode:

Melfi rarely had episodes focused on her, but when she did, she had some of the most powerful moments in the show. Another awesome Melfi moment is in season 5 opening episode, "Two Tonys", when
she rejects Tony, who asked her on a date, thinking she would have problem with it anymore since he is no longer her patient and he is separated from his wife. The awesome moment is when she finally tells him straight into his face exactly why she could never have a personal relationship with him.
Too bad I can't find a video of that scene anywhere, or even a transcript.

The final moments of season 4 of Blake's Seven. The alarm blaring and the shots and the silence and the lack of music. Very powerful. Especially a couple of days before Christmas.

When the Galactica jumps into the atmosphere of New Caprica.

The Final Battle of NuBSG.

When Archie cries after finding Edith's houseslipper under the bed after she dies.

When Janet Jackson was abused on Good Times.

When Radar announced to the MASH gang that their previous commander was shot down enroute to Japan.

When Lana discovers Clark's secret.

Off the top of my head....

Angel
"Hero" - Angel and Cordelia watching the video of Doyle after his death.

"I'll Remember You" - Buffy and Angel's parting after he has TPTB take back their day together.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
"Prophecy Girl" - Buffy's reaction after walking in on Angel's and Giles's conversation about her death.

"Passion" - Angel stalking Ms. Calendar and killing her in the school.

"Becoming, Part 2" - Angel regaining his soul too late; Buffy sending him to hell.

"Graduation Day, Part 1" - Angel feeding on Buffy.

Star Trek
"The Enterprise Incident" - Commander of the Romulan ship asking Spock what he is that he could betray her and his response, "First Officer of the Enterprise."

I remember the episode of "All in the Family," when Edith is attacked and raped in her own house. Ultimately, she fights back and escapes, and I could never look at her as just a comic dingbat ever again. I was a kid when that episode aired for the first time, and I still have a very visceral reaction to it thirty years later.

Third Watch, an AWOL Bosco wakes up in a strange apartment next to a woman he doesn't know to the sound of a jet flying much to low. The next scene is our characters, the cops paramedics and firefighters of the 55ths Third Watch, who had gotten off duty are in their civilian clothes flashing their badges as they hop on the fire engines and the radio patrol cars heading towards the Twin Towers. Fade to black.
