Congrats, Mr President:bolian:
I know many ppl will start now bashing him and the award..but In my opinion he deserves this award.
The political climate has become much more positive during his presidency and he has worked hard in the field of diplomacy, thoug I do admit theres much work to be done.
I hope President Obama uses this oportunity to speed up and revamp the Middle-east peace process:cool:...

I think it is too soon to give President Obama a Nobel Prize...more power to him I guess.

S.

Wow.

That's pretty stunning.

I'm happy for him and proud of the approach he's taken so far.

:techman:

Because of who he is we give him glory.
Because of who he is we give him fame.
Because of who he is we lift our arms in praise
Yes we worship Him because of who he is!

The nominations closed on President Obama's tenth day in office. He won because he is our savior!

From the Nobel Committee
"for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
And what part do you disagree with, or is this just because you don't like the man and he can't do anything right?

I'm sure he was a great comfort to the democracy protesters in Iran, the oppressed in North Korea, the Afghan women being beaten by the Taliban, the people of Poland, Czech Republic, etc. Is there one instance of Peace breaking out due to the Obama presidency?

There are much more deserving people. But then the Nobel Prize jumped the shark when they gave it to the other guy who hung out with anti-Semites who think Israel should be gone; Yassir Arafat.

While I think the probability is high that Obama can accomplish some great things, I don't get this. He's actually accomplished nothing - there are still 2 wars being fought, Iran is still rattling its nuclear saber, and the Middle East as a whole is still as turbulent as it was on January 19th.

It sounds like a participation award.

From the article:

Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

Some said they saw the prize as a way of encouraging the US leader early in his presidency.

Jimmy Carter too.

You really don't have any clue about history, do you? When Arafat won it, it was for a joint prize with the Israeli PM for the Oslo Accords which were thought to be a major milestone in the peace process.

But I guess that it is easier to wallow in ignorance than to make pertinent comments.

This is my problem too.

I've always seen the Nobel Peace Prize as the biggest award you could be given, a reward for amazing work done.

What are they going to do if he does achieve world peace? Give it to him again?
