Didn't they mention something about the mayor and the police department liking the "positive press" they are getting in the "high brow" community in NYC, of which Castle is a "darling" member.
But it doesn't seem to have gone on sale on the show yet, if the early review copies are just going out . . .
To the show's credit, they're being more or less realistic about how slow publishing is. (As opposed to some other tv shows I can think of, where books go from delivery to publication in about four episodes!)

It's kind of perpetuating the myth that writers are rich and lead glamorous lives. I guess maybe Castle is one of those top-tier authors on the level of a Stephen King, say, so it's not impossible, but his standard of living is hardly representative of the profession as a whole, especially in these tough economic times, and I wish they'd acknowledge that.
And he has connections.
Castle's Heatwave is number 26 on the NYTimes best seller list.

However, since the book only came out recently, maybe Fillion's referring to the next list. The current one was posted six days ago, so maybe there will be a new one shortly.

I thought that was only why Beckett was stuck doing the interview. I guess it could be seen as the reason on a long term basis.
Castle has helped them solve a number of homicide cases, so why wouldn't they want him to stay on? I mean, you have to wonder why the citizens of Cabot Cove didn't elect Jessica Fletcher the town sheriff after a while. Although they were stupid enough to keep living there despite the horrifically high homicide rate, so...

Could be. Most publishers are notified weeks in advance if their books are going to make the list. (I found out about THE Q CONTINUUM when we got an advance peek at the list faxed to us at Tor. I believe my excited shrieks echoed down the corridors of the Flatiron Building . . . .)
