If the JJPrise REALLY IS 725 meters...

Then what of the other TOS ships? Do we scale them up by 250% as well? Sure, keep the smaller craft the old size, like the Klingon Bird of Prey (otherwise it wont fit in the park :p) but the ships that are supposed to be intimidating, like the D7, Romulan Bird of Prey, etc, wouldn't be so scary if they aren't even as big as the Enterprise's nacelle.

I'm starting to warm up to the 725m size, I used to be one of those 366m crowd, and I still am a bit, even if it's just wishful thinking at this point.

Your thoughts?

I think we've had this thread already, and Golden Gate Park is pretty damn big.

Personally I'm fine with the idea of rescaling the Prime universe ships, but that's going to make many, many people tear their hair out. I imagine it would be sort of frustrating for the SFX guys who remastered TOS; after they were so careful to shrink the shuttle bay shots to match the 300 meter scale, somebody goes and says it was actually much larger!

Yay this annoying topic is back!

I maintain the size of the ship only matters in some guy's starship size comparison chart. Otherwise it doesn't really matter.

I have a feeling they'll design a new Klingon ship for the next film. Remember the Nerada bore zero resemblance to every other Romulan ship ever (although that's supposedly due to secret Romulan/Borg X-tech according to Countdown). That said, they used the old D7/K't'inga during the Kobayahi scene, and it would look silly next to a 718-762 meter Enterprise-on-steriods-with-six-warp-cores.

Besides, based on how big the main bridge viewscreen looks and how people appear standing against it I think the nuEnterprise isnt much more than 300m long anyways. She's not 700m by a longshot. That's be as long as the 1701-E from the Prime Universe and she sure as hell isn't that big!

I agree with you to some extent, but size does matter a bit when it comes to interactions between ships, such as shuttles, docks, stations, etc.
The only reason I raised the question again was to ask if it really is that big, should I up the enemy ships as well? Because if it is 725m, the TOS D-7 wouldn't be any larger than the nuEnterprise's nacelle.

The Enterprise is badass man...I mean big

Most of the visual evidence + official figures from Paramount et al state it at ~700 metres. Time to accept it.

The console displays sure looked like the type of thing we saw in Nemesis.

I've learned to accept it, no matter how much I think it's a bad idea.
Having something THAT big just doesn't make much sense, for that matter the Galaxy class was a bad idea too. How exactly are you supposed to maneuver something that big?!?
Take the scene over Vulcan, if the Big E was the 366m size, it wouldn't have even gotten a scratch.
And as far as plot goes, this means that if there are wormholes, openings in dangerous anomalies, etc, they would have to be MASSIVE to let her go through.

It doesnt look remotely like 725 meters. Sorry. If that's what J.J. and Paramount say, fine. But doesn't mean it makes any visual, logical sense.:)

This topic appears to be some sort of self-replicating nanoswarm.

Bring on the Klingon dreadnoughts!

The New ship looks huge, but that's fine, it has a spacious interior, not the same corridor on every deck in every location.

But, the ship's roots as it was originally designed (366 meters) is painstankingly clear in the window locations, size and hull shape. The main anamolies are pretty much the shuttlebay and bridge viewport.

Look, if the Enterprise-D can pack an extra deck into its originally one-deck saucer rim without scaling larger, and Voyager can pack the Delta Flyer into its tiny shuttlebay without scaling larger, then its fine for the NuEnterprise to have a TARDIS shuttlebay without scaling larger.

^Yep. The JJprise was designed as slightly larger than the original, but for various reasons, for several scenes they literally took the model and blew it up to 200%. So you have most of the movie using a normal size, and two or three scenes of it supersized. Fact is, despite what ILM says, the JJprise has multiple sizes, either which you can go for.

Or else...something, I guess.

The airlocks and docking ports alone show that the nuEnty isn't 700 m long. At most she might be the 366 m or so some have calculated. Unless those circular, TMP-style docking and pod doors are 20 feet across to allow for uber-fat, super-obese Starfleet officers.
