Ugh... Had it this year where the woman in front of me pulled into the intersection waiting for the left turn, and then when the light changed red PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE and tried to back up to get out of the intersection instead of completing the turn. I had already pulled up to the line, and there were a bunch of cars behind me, so she basically sat in the intersection until the light changed again, blocking an entire lane of cross traffic.

I seriously believe you should have to re-test periodically to keep your drivers license. Especially people like this.

At least if you get a ticket, you do. Which makes sense, really: If you get a ticket, you should test again, and if you don't, you don't need to (because you're a good enough driver).

It depends on the State. When I came to Oklahoma, all I took was the written exam to get my license. At that time, it was a pathetic 15 question test -- and when I turned in my test there were people there who had sat down before me STILL looking at their test with perplexed looks on their faces

When I got my license in Illinois, it was a 100 question test that covered more than just road signs.

Mandatory retesting here in Oregon doesn't start until you turn 80.

Here in NE, if you don't have any points against your license (this includes if you get a ticket but take the driving class to have that ticket expunged), you don't have to retest. At least not the written one, anyway, I think you still have to do the vision.

No point system here either. Pretty much anyone can drive. You really have to work at losing your license. The fines for tickets are pretty horrific though, which is what keeps people sane around here.
