Star Trek Ends Theatrical Run

You can't blame Jeyl for not recognizing it though. They aren't familiar with a well liked and successful Star Trek. ;)

This theatrical run is not going to end without a fight. One Seattle area theater is still playing, and I am going to see the 9:50 PM showing tonight (It's 8:30 my time now.)

As a matter of fact, as well as being the first Star Trek film which I have seen on the big screen, it is also the first movie that I have ever gone to see at the theater more than once.

Trek's 2 week return to IMAX is now is something like its 6th week or so here in Vegas. It made be only one screening a day at one theater but it is cool that Star Trek is still playing five months after opening!

The IMAX run here has been extended to October 15.

I'm planning to go again on Sunday.

This movie had very long legs for IMAX, that 28 million would have been higher too if it had played at all IMAX screens when it opened which means next time all the IMAX screens will get it for opening, equalling massive front loaded sales. It needs to play 1 month solid at release next time out, and that's going to be tough to book. But hopefully they remember the success of this one over other movies that played on IMAX in 2009.

It never played even once at my local IMAX, so I never got to see it in IMAX :sigh:

Blue Trek, I really feel for you.

Seeing the movie in IMAX was a great way to go.

Roll on November 17th.

That's weird. Is your IMAX in a regular theatre or at a science/tech center?

Held over this coming week at the Cannery Row IMAX, where 18 people went to see Star Trek yesterday, including myself and my son (again)... not bad for a slow Monday night. Harry Potter pulled in about 6 folks.

The manager told me that an IMAX in downtown Sacramento is begging for the movie, but they won't release it until Paramount wants it back, so profitable is it to the theater.

These IMAXes are "independent", whatever that means....

But I'm here to tell you, if the next Trek is released at my IMAX first-run, and they show 2 screens a night, they will be sold out 14 times a week for 4 weeks.

Crazy.

They must not be a part of the contracts that IMAX makes with the studios to distribute.

Since I take it the theater wasn't showing Trek in May, what was it showing?

Star Trek has one of the biggest futures of any franchise. Star Trek 2 is going to get a POTC TDK like Bump mark my words. 350m+ at the domestic BO

The Watchmen and 300, both Warner Bros. productions. Before that, The Dark Knight.

Star Trek is the first movie from an "outside" movie company shown at the theater.

The theater is in the Monterey Bay Acquarium area, and is usually showing Sharks 3D and similar movies.

They just recently branched out to include the more lucrative Hollywood blockbusters (starting with TDK).

Don't know what would be involved in getting the next movie first-run, but what a gold mine that would be for both Paramount and the respective "independent" IMAX theaters.

I have that feeling too.

Actually, in talking with the manager of the theater, seems like it isn't just "repeat business" that's keeping Star Trek at the theater; it includes a healthy measure of word of mouth on a very small-town, local scale.

It is amazing to see...
